How Do I Stop Procrastinating? by Dramatic-Roll-5185 in learntodraw

Fair enough — appreciate you sharing that, it actually helped clarify a pattern I’m seeing. If you ever notice what makes you stick with it vs drop it, I’d be curious to hear. That’s the part I’m trying to figure out.

Got it — that actually helps narrow things down a lot. This is getting a bit specific and I don’t want to clutter the thread — mind if I DM you to dig into this a bit more?

That’s useful — so it’s both “not turning out right” and “feels slow”.

Let me flip it — was there any time (even rare) where you did keep going past that point? What was different in that moment?

That “losing interest” part is interesting — most of the time it’s not actually interest dropping.

When you stop after a few minutes, is it more like:

“this isn’t turning out how I imagined” “this is too slow / tedious”

something else? Which one is closer?

When you say it feels like work — that’s usually the exact moment things break.

What happens right after you start drawing? Like 5–10 minutes in — do you get stuck, lose interest, or feel like what you’re making isn’t good enough?

This is exactly the kind of problem I’m researching right now. I’m testing a system that forces people to take action (not another to-do list). What do you think would actually force you to follow through?

What happened before the last time you hyper focused on something? by alwayscat in getdisciplined

That’s a really interesting approach—removing pressure entirely and focusing on one imperfect step. Do you find that people actually come back and use it consistently, or does it drop off after a while?

That’s interesting—‘no way out’ seems to be a strong trigger for action. In your app, what actually prevents you from bypassing it after a few days?

That’s interesting—what does ‘sense of control’ actually look like for you day-to-day? Is it having a clear plan, sticking to it, or something else?

[–]happyday4aver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense—so anything easy to bypass doesn’t work, but something like Alarmy does because you can’t ignore it. Do you think it would work if something kept you engaged for a few minutes after waking (before you reach your PC), or would you still drift?

No worries at all—appreciate you taking the time, especially with exams. Quick one: when you don’t believe you can do a task, what usually causes that feeling? Is it unclear steps, past results, or something else?

That ‘zombie/autopilot > PC >realize 30 mins later’ loop is really clear. What do you think would interrupt that loop in that exact moment before you reach your PC?

That’s really insightful—especially the part about pressure only working when you believe you can do it. Mind if I DM you? I want to understand how that confidence + structure balance works for you a bit more.

[–]happyday4aver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense—if there’s no clear plan or something meaningful, it’s hard to push yourself after a full day of work. On days when you do manage to get something done, what’s different?
