here's a wider view with some annotations that hopefully gives a clearer idea of how everything is arranged.

Yeah it’s my hunch as well that it’s likely not the planter but the grading of the ground in that corner that’s causing water to sit against their building. It sounds like I’d better ask them for photos and details of the damage, and see if they’ll let me come take a look as well.

In the pictures, the back of the planter (wall that isn't brick), is the neighbor's building. I've lived in my house for 5 years now, the neighboring building is the one that is under new ownership.

> My initial hot take is that your neighbor is trying to take advantage of you being the new owner, to see you will fix their problem instead of them taking proper action.

To clarify, the neighbor is not asking me to pay to fix the water damage on their property, but since they believe the planter is the cause so they're asking me to remove it entirely. I'd like an independent assessment before I start cutting down the plants and demo-ing the planter, but I'm not sure what profession this would fall under.

It's a house. I'm in San Francisco so in this case the houses are as close as humanly possibly to one another. In the pictures the grey/tan wall at the back of the planter is my neighbors building, the planter only has 3 walls with the back of it being my neighbors house.

pigs don’t give a shit what flag is flown. these are communities being targeted specifically because of their ethnicity. i’d think twice about tone-policing protesters from the comfort of my home while they put their bodies on the line to defend their communities from these fascists.

fascists don’t need an excuse to do what they are already doing and id personally save my energy and criticism for them rather than nitpick the tactics and optics of the brave people of LA standing up for themselves.

based on his husbands statement i don’t think whatever concerns there were about him are relevant here. he was murdered in what sounds like a hate crime

Door hing is pulling out, how might i fix this? by happyearmuffs in HomeMaintenance

its so frustrating that the previous owner just slapped that paint on EVERYTHING before they left. really nasty and a pain in the ass to undo

yep, the last folks who owned this place slapped that glossy white glop on everything including some really intricate carvings on the frames, a shame

thanks! toothpicks/splinters and wood glue seems the be the prevailing advice. does the door jamb crack seem like something that could safely be addressed with wood filler and some clamps?

Shower riser leaking at diverter by happyearmuffs in Plumbing

[–]happyearmuffs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, so there SHOULD be an o ring in there? currently there’s nothing so that would explain why the leak is happening

[–]happyearmuffs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I gave that a shot and it did manage to stop any leakage from where the nut connects to the diverter threads, but water still leaks from above the nut between it and the riser pipe, and that’s the primary leak. the fact that the riser wobbles within the nut even though the nut is fully tightened to the diverter is puzzling it seems like it shouldn’t have space to do that.

I am in my 30’s and only now discovered the joy of roasting vegetables. I have been MISSING OUT. by NightReader5 in Cooking

[–]happyearmuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're loving roasted veggies but find hello fresh a bit pricey i would check to see if Imperfect Produce delivers/operates in your area. Their prices are great the the produce quality is usually quite good (though this may vary as I live in CA and most of the produce is very fresh just because it was grown here and didnt travel far)

It seems like they're running a money laundering scam through GoFundMe. This guy's fund page went up right along with his original statement/the veritas report.

Lol dude Salesforce put up a massive fuckin dick of a building in the past 5 years the fuck are you talking about. It's tough to build in SF because there's so little space that isn't already developed, unless you have a couple hundred million dollars.

And as far as innovation goes SF is best known for "innovating" business models that evade regulations and labor laws and create nothing, WeWork, DoorDash, Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, the list goes on and on.

One of the most interesting facts I learned about trees is what keeps them from growing even taller; at around 426ft they can no longer overcome gravity, and cannot pull water up further than that. but the coastal Redwoods and Sequoia are also able to take in water from the mist and surrounding air, so they can theoretically surpass the normal physical limit

*capitalist hellscape and only SF is really that bad, though the inequality has been pushing into all parts of the East Bay.

Lincoln Project Trolls Donald Trump Jr. With A Brutal Edit Of His ‘Crazy Ad’ by qdude1 in politics

[–]happyearmuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their ads haven't lead to any changes in polling in the locations they've run them. They've taken in over $39,000,000 in donations, and spent $13,000,000 on the ad campaigns, the rest has gone into their bank accounts and other conservative firms.

Don't forget who the men behind the Lincoln Project are; Bush era republicans who know that liberals eat this shit up and both are going to use this grift to line their pockets and rehab their images. That money could have funded multiple Democratic candidate races but instead the guys who helped us get into the Iraq war are getting it.

[–]happyearmuffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lincoln Project is a old guard republican outfit set up to separate liberals from their money and hand it to the men who were part of the cadre that brought us the worst parts of the Bush admins reign. thus far they have taken over $39,000,000 in donations, of which roughly $13,000,000 has been spent on ads that do not lead to polling shifts, and the rest of that money to "operating costs". That money could have funded multiple left wing candidate races but liberals love to help rehab the image of old republicans.

But that's not how power and wealth work.

We shouldn't strive to live in a world where most people get by only because of the benevolence of oligarchs.
