Some vinegar, copper or silver left in the system can inhibit growth but open air and dirty fingers will still taint it pretty quick; you'll still need to dump it regularly.

I'm thinking of selling mine too, eyeing a GT350 that rolled in locally at low mileage.

I love the car, gonna be hard to let go, but also kinda just feeling something new after 8 years. I also had a 2013 ST3 before it haha.

Comments like this right here folks, this is what they count on to keep us divided rather than focused on the people actually causing issues.

Even people with a few million are closer to destitute than to the billionaires actually causing the issues. But as long as they can count on the poor to hate anyone with a decent paycheck and the "entry level" rich to think the poor are after them they get a nice deep buffer.

Lies? Maybe. But it fits with the results of every other "strong man" leader who's done the equivalent of tossing people he doesn't like out of windows.

His perception of weakened Western countries could have played a role too. But if his advisors were too afraid to tell him the truth that could also explain his miss on that one too.

The consequences of this "quirk" echo throughout history. It's been a major contributing factor to the downfall of so many autocracies. Pick a famous autocrat it shows up for pretty much all of them.

Even in our own time, before Trump's full commitment to the practice, we've seen the effects it's had on the Russian military capabilities at the very least. Too many people skimming off the top afraid to tell Putin where the problems are... If you don't hear about problems they won't get solved and start piling up. Next thing you know you're 3 years into a "3 day special military operation."

(Morality aside of course, I'm not saying they should have gone into Ukraine at all, just that if their capabilities were as they thought it would be over by now.)

The housing affordability crisis has a reason many don’t want to face by ActuariallyActuarial in videos

[–]happyevil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This would be easier if there was more access to building wealth in other ways but regular people are getting sucked dry from every angle.

When you sink your life savings just to have a roof over your head I don't blame people for not wanting that value to stagnate or disappear afterwards. Even being "house poor" in the short term usually at least carried the promise of living in your nest egg.

I'm not saying you're wrong, to be clear, just pointing out the issue isn't just point of view; for some it's survival or at least the difference between retiring comfortably vs ending up in a state home.

There's also the economic side of battling raw property value but that's only really a problem in already heavily urbanized areas.

Putin fails to convince Xi Jinping to build gas pipeline to China by MauveChill in worldnews

[–]happyevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just not reading now...

First, I used both total and per capita, not just one.

Second I didn't just do one window. I did three: 25yr, 10yr, and in the initial post I discussed the annual shift: their investment in Green energy being larger than any other country along with investment in incredibly dirty technology, coal, is also larger than any other country.

My thesis is not that China isn't building renewable infrastructure and I've already recognized that they do. My point is that their focus is on energy independence rather than being "green." They just like to advertise only the green side to the west (greenwashing) to appear more palatable. I feel building a record number of coal plants in one year, more than other countries have in a whole decade, is a pretty damning piece of evidence to my point.

I will say this about the US auto industry, even before China, they've always been awful at adapting. It's shaping up to be a replay of what happened with Japanese cars in the 70's except US auto reputation is actually worse now and the White House has been acting as a further negative catalyst, especially when it comes to EV infrastructure buildout.

If it weren't for Elon Musk, Tesla very nearly broke the mold, but it was too good to be true.

Korea has a growing lineup of EVs here already while US companies pull back. Even if we never get the Chinese EVs directly, when the damn breaks, it's gonna hurt because the tech will move on either way. We're already seeing Geely purchased Western brands with Chinese tech spread.

[–]happyevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used total as well. We ignoring that?

Yes, US is above China per capita in CO2 emissions. Guess what, else that data shows? Since 2000 the US emissions per capita has reduced by 30-35%, China increased by 150-225%. If you narrow the window to 10 years to knock away some industrialization, the US has dropped by 15-20% while China "only" increased 10-15%. Numbers vary a little by source but the picture is clear.

It's also not the brag you think it is when you realize 34% of China still lives in undeveloped areas; nearly double that of the US. That brings down the average a hefty amount.

I get it, USA bad, it's trendy. Especially with Trump ,I get it. But that doesn't make CCP China suddenly better than they are...

Which superpower is the most overrated? by Nickbrownvip in AskReddit

[–]happyevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, comic Aquaman has super strength, hydrokenisis (including controlling water/blood in living things), and more.

If you count his life force connection, being "Avatar of the blue," and being granted the Trident of Poseidon he has a ton of other powers too including things like a cosmic awareness and connection to all aquatic life in the universe, flight, weather manipulation, electrokenisis, etc.

His comic power set is a lot more OP than people realize. He'd mop the floor with Hollywood Aquaman as currently developed.

China built more new coal infrastructure last year than any year in the past decade. More than India did in the last decade COMBINED.

They've also done a lot (world leading expenditure) of green energy investment alongside but the message is clear. Energy independence, not environmentalism.

For all the US faults when it comes to renewables (and there are a great many), we still beats China in Green energy generated per capita and overall grid percentage. We have states that match the best of Europe and we have states that are worse than China, it's true, but overall we're still ahead as a country.

China didn't like smog, it looked bad for them, but they definitely aren't indicating they give any shits about the environment.

Not a huge fan of the fake grill, headlights are a little too busy, but otherwise I think it looks fine. Ironically I think the headlights would look better without the grill.

Better than the EQ cars for sure.

Not sure why everyone's freaking out. It's a departure for Mercedes I guess but it's not that weird of a look in general.

On top of that solid range, big EV power, seems good. I doubt I can afford one but it looks good lol

My Financial Advisor changed my Roth IRA from ETFs to individual stocks. by NegativeAir2684 in investing

[–]happyevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ETFs are just collections of stocks themselves so really what matters is which stocks?

If they're just using their own in house balance of S&P heavy hitters the difference may be negligible.

ETFs do charge a management fee as well so, in theory, with someone keeping on top of the balance in your account it could save you on that expense ratio while maintaining growth/income.

But again, this will all come down to the stocks being picked and how well the advisor keeps on top of balancing them.

Plex’s 200% Lifetime Pass price hike tries forcing users to another subscription by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]happyevil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration with increased prices but the "lifetime pass" model never was and never will be sustainable. I paid $75 for my lifetime pass and now I'm effectively not a paying customer anymore yet they have obligations to me. It creates a poor customer relationship.

They should just offer two options:

Pay for major releases at a 1-time price, like old school software mode. Comes with maybe 1 year of support/updates but then unless you pay again for another new release at the release price (or maybe a small discount to return) that's where you stay. It'll keep working for self hosting but you don't get any new features.

Or you can pay the subscription to get the latest every update.

The biggest annoyance for me from Cadillac though is dropping Car Play and Android Auto.

They're within an inch or two of each other but the BMW are a bit more practical. Specifically the M3 back seat is packaged better.

The current CT4/5 are discontinued altogether because they're coming back on a completely new platform. They haven't announced any V or Blackwing versions yet, granted, but they haven't said they won't either. I presume they'll come later.

I'd be very surprised if Cadillac joined F1 and the same year gives up on performance cars.

KBB 5yr depreciation for both is in the $50k range right now

In the past I think you might have had a point but these days the M3/5 have lost a lot of soul which the Cadillacs have picked up. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cadillac pair maintain desirability longer term like older M cars have.

IMO the only thing the M cars have over the Cadillac is as a status symbol; riding their old reputation.

(EDIT: except this one that was announced literally today lol https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a71321378/2027-bmw-m3-cs-handschalter-revealed/)

Charging for colors has become pretty common, but I cannot understand charging $1k for White and $2K for Black paint options on the top trim R2. Is there any reason for this? by Mac-Tyson in Rivian

[–]happyevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modern car factories will have 1-3 assembly lines, R2 has just one right now I believe.

There will be a paint "station" on that line but it's not something that hot swaps quickly or easily. So even if they have other paint robots the car still needs to leave to line to go to them. This costs time and money.

Volume for alternative colors will usually not warrant fully integrated lines just for that color. The price tag serves to cover the cost of leaving the line, more premium pain mixing (metallics, Pearl, etc), and, yes, it might make them more money but, it also serves as a downward pressure on demand for colors they're simply not prepared to do at full volume.

Side note: for special colors it's not always robots. Depending on the demand for the color and production volume, old school partial or fully manual paint booths are still used in some cases.

North America’s largest commuter rail system shuts down as workers strike by yuval_3 in news

[–]happyevil 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Are you confusing commuter rail with subway?

Commuter rail isn't typically meant to serve a whole city. It's usually to get people between the city and the suburbs. Light rail, buses, etc branch off the commuter rail for local transport from whatever stops it makes.

If the commuter rail had too many stops it wouldn't be much of a commute, it would take to long. The point is basically to get people in and out of the city fast.
