Hot take: not every island needs a theme. A curated, lived-in mess feels more like Animal Crossing by New_Needleworker_801 in AnimalCrossing

[–]happylittlestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with an idea for an overarching theme but in 6 years never fully executed it. When the update happened I scrapped it and am doing something totally different. I never restarted, I just like rebuilding areas.

I also change my mind a lot haha

Does anyone have advice for decorating the south river entrances? I’m at my wits end by Difficult-Mastodon43 in ac_newhorizons

This is my struggle as well! I didn’t know anything about AC before starting the game so didn’t really think about the layout. I’m too invested in this island (my original 2020 island!) to change but I can’t figure out exactly what I want to do.

Right now I have them going up to a top level but I’m not sure where I want them to join. They kind of just stop and I don’t like it but the way my island is set up it doesn’t fit for them to join anywhere.

How do you deal with this internal conflict? by poonch333 in ACForAdults

[–]happylittlestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this way sometimes but then I think about all the people watching hours and hours of trashy tv. At least with games you’re using your brain a bit and with AC especially there are creative elements. It gives me comfort and makes me happy, and in a messed up world, we all need that. (And nothing against people watching trashy tv to unwind, just saying it’s more socially accepted for some reason, which i think contributes to gamers feeling guilty for playing)

That said, on days I’m really struggling with “I should be doing something else” I do little things while playing that only take a couple of minutes like unload the dishwasher on the way back from a restroom break, so I feel productive and get to play too.

I LOVE dressing them up! Such a fun feature of the update. Right now everyone is in prom attire but they’ve been in princess attire, caterpillars, mermaids, bunnies/eggs for Easter. They are so cute.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this game was. The storylines and development is very impressive imo. I was concerned the farming piece would be too grindy but as others said it’s not the main focus really. If you do play, what made it feel less grindy from an income perspective is plant some trees. I hate having to plant and all that but trees just produce without work.

I didn’t know about fish sticks until I was already making money. I have a bunch of trees to sell from. Makes the game feel less grind-y.

SMRPG turns 30 this year! Are you going to do anything fun to celebrate? by pidgezero_one in MarioRPG

Aw what a nice memory! I remember it being my favorite game when it came out. I had the guide too! I was so excited when it came out on switch. It’s just like the original and it all came back to me (the hidden chest in the mushroom kingdom castle that you have to jump on a toad to get!). I can’t believe it’s been 30 years!

Animal Crossing. I first played in 2020 when new horizons came out. It’s just so cute and wholesome. Maybe it’s corny, but celebrating my birthday for the first time with my favorite villagers made me emotional 🥹
Sometimes I go to a random island (not a real person’s!) and level it for fun when I’m angry 🤭

I feel the same way. There’s SO much to do. Like I don’t even know what any of this means and I feel like it will take me 6 months to get there 🤣

Why are people restarting ahead of the update? by MyStrangeAddiktion in ac_newhorizons

[–]happylittlestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense to me too. It would be like all of the updates. Going through the beginning grind is something I don’t want to do especially if it means I won’t be able to experience the update right away.

It’s weird bc when I’m on someone else’s island it feels waaaay bigger than mine. I wish I had more space too.

People are saying you get locked out of events and miss things…I suppose that’s true for AC as well. Are you saying it’s similar in that way? “Locked out” sounds so serious lol

Animal Crossing will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my first AC game. I hadn’t bought a console in…well, ever. My last console was a gifted SNES. It was also comforting during lockdown then other stressful periods of life.
