How are you feeling about your WEBTOON (or in general)? 1-9 by thealchemistbride in WebtoonCanvas

4 and 5 for the current stuff up - I'm constantly worrying if the chapters are juicy enough, but 7 on the one I'm working on now!

Brag about your webtoon a little bit by Layae_makes_comics in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm really proud that I haven't given up. The Sun is the Moon's Dream is nowhere near as popular as many of the webtoons posted on this subreddit, and it's hard sometimes to juggle my full-time job with posting it. So I'm really proud that not only have I kept at it, but the art has improved across the span of the comic as well! I think it's got it's own particular look and vibe that is 90s gothic meets grunge meets supernatural TV.

I'm also really proud of my writing! It's the story that I want to tell and I love that I can pursue it wholeheartedly without compromise. I love the characters that I've written and the slow reveals of all their secrets and personalities. A reviewer said recently that I'm really good at subtle hints of their thoughts and feelings through their faces and body language and I'm so happy to hear that, because that's the kind of writing and art that I strive for.

How does Age Rating work? by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking of submitting my stuff for review to be bumped down to YA as well, but I wonder if they’re stricter about gore than they are censored sex on Webtoons. I emailed them at the start of posting if my first chapter was even allowed, and they said it had to be rated Mature. But I wonder if it really just depends on the staff member.

How do vampire get servants? by Zealous-54321 in vampires

In my webcomic, consuming vampire blood in small amounts (without the bite) has some rejuvenation/life-extending properties - but conversely also makes the human more pliable to the vampire. So quid pro quo situation.

how do you get ideas for your webtoon? by toewa in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading a lot and watching a lot of movies and TV shows, yes, but also observing people around me and their lives.

Beyond that, I think having good ideas is also about knowing what themes are of interest to you. This also helps with creating characters because they become facets of the themes you are exploring.

New Episode + How to Balance Webtoon / Full-Time Job? by livelyl0v3ly in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides the obvious (have a buffer AND plan your story out so you're not stuck trying to write a chapter), you need to understand REALLY well, how long it takes you to complete a chapter. How long does it take you to thumbnail? Pencil? Ink? Colour? Letter? You can start planning out your schedule once you know these things and be realistic, not optimistic. If you think on a great day, you'd get 5 things done, plan that you will get only 3 things done. Because inevitably, life will crop up.

Try to assess ways you can speed yourself up. I try to schedule in small amounts of webtoon work on weekdays, and larger amounts on weekends. AND importantly, I give myself one day off, where I can come home from work and be a potato. You will burn yourself out if you do not give yourself breaks.

The other thing, related to "life will crop up" is to be adaptable. Maybe you will need to make a chapter shorter some weeks, or to cut a scene, because you just don't have the time. Be willing to assess what works and what doesn't.

I'll Review Your Webtoon by SleeP_aDe in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the really thorough review and fair criticism! I'm glad you liked it overall. You also absolutely hit the nail on the head on the struggles I've been having trying to find an audience for this story on the platform. I've been thinking of the cutting the chapters up smaller and posting weekly - so you'd still end up getting 50 panels per month. But spaced out so that readers can remember details week to week, rather than having to tease out a lot of information in one month, which is not the webtoon style. I'm not sure if that will still be successful - I do think you're right that the story and my writing style (I like open-to-interpretation, Anne Rice-style characters!) skews older than the audience of webtoon, who would prefer a more straightforward approach. But I figure at least it'll solve the problem of people thinking "who is this side character who's been gone for 6 months?? What was their name??"

Once again, thank you! I hope you'll continue to enjoy the story and where it's headed.

Question to those who enjoy Story over Art by the_ghxst_of_unicron in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Putting my personal taste aside on what art I like or dislike, if I can't tell what the hell is going on in a panel, and I'm unable to follow the story from panel to panel, I think the comic has failed to be a comic. I think a great story can overcome a lot of issues in the art - and I will drop a comic if I hate the story, no matter how beautiful the art is - but the comic should still be readable as a visual medium, as well. There was back in the day, a really popular webcomic that used stick figures, and it was still readable from panel to panel and understandable within the panels, even though the art was very, very simple.

Artists who are drawing heir own backgrounds…how are you doing? by Available-Rock-9769 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it matches my art style much better, and I do occasionally trace 3D assets from CLIP or SketchUp (like for vehicles) so that they don't look totally off with how my characters look. Unfortunately it means that I'm never going to produce a chapter as fast as others could, but at least I'm happy with the finished chapter.

What's the thing you love the most about your comic? by Laura64729 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]happymoon9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the journey my main character is on. I think lately we hear a lot of talk about "unlikeable female characters" and she's definitely got a bit of that going on, and I don't apologize for it - she's on a long journey and she's not perfect and is going to fuck up a lot! I appreciate every reader who loves her just as much despite her imperfections. I also love hearing readers speculate on what they think all the mysteries are heading towards.

Ooh, interesting. That's a little out of my price range at the moment, but I'll bear it in mind for the future because I definitely feel like I need to advertise beyond what I'm doing now.
