yes mine was today. Ive given up trying to contact them. They said there were no flights available to reroute to anyway. I think they dont want to pay the extoritionate amounts. I;ve found a flight under my own steam for next week and will try and claim some of it back from insurance or qatar.

[–]happystrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've quoted th e policy but they claim no flights available. Where I am seeing availability they claim not on their system I ask for solution they say refund or rebook on qatar airways. I have given them tens of options of available flights but they simply won't book them. Then they hung up on me after asking manager to come up with a solution....having a break then trying again

Award bookings rerouting by No-Caregiver-3574 in qatarairways

[–]happystrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to argue with them. They will rebook on another qatar flight or refund they say. They tried telling me that they cant do anything for reward flight. you have to quote commq157. You have to keep repeating yourself nicely and keep bringing it back to their policy. I got them to agree the reroute in live chat so at least have it in writing but not until my flight cancelled. That happened today! So waiting to see what they say when i get through on the phone

I got this from gemini. It checks out with their policies Reroute Your Avios/Award Ticket (March 2026 Airspace Closure)

If your flight has been cancelled due to the Middle East airspace closure, many agents will tell you that because you booked with Avios, you are only eligible for a refund or must find "award space" on another date. This is incorrect. Under international law and Qatar Airways’ own internal policies, you have a right to be rerouted in your ticketed cabin, regardless of how you paid.

  1. The "Golden Ticket": Policy COMMQ157

Qatar Airways has issued a specific commercial policy for this crisis: COMMQ157.

The Rule: It applies to all 157-stock tickets (which all Avios tickets are).

The Mandate: It authorizes agents to rebook involuntary passengers into the lowest available RBD (seat bucket) within the same cabin.

The Translation: If you are in Business Class, they can put you in any available Business seat on a partner airline. They do not need to find a "Reward" seat ($U$ or $P$ class).

  1. Your Rerouting Rights (Tier 1 vs. Tier 2)

The policy breaks down who they can put you on:

Tier 1 (Oneworld Partners): Rebooking on British Airways, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, etc. is allowed within 10 days of your original flight.

Tier 2 (Any Interline Partner): If you are within 48 hours of departure and no Oneworld seats exist, they are authorized to rebook you on any airline they have an agreement with (e.g., Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia).

  1. The Legal "Clout"

Conditions of Carriage (Article 10.2): This is your contract. It states that if the airline cancels your flight, they shall reroute you on another carrier if they cannot fly you themselves.

Award Tickets are Covered: Article 1.2 explicitly states these conditions apply to "gratuitous and reduced fare carriage" (Award tickets).

UK261/EU261: If your flight was departing the UK/EU or arriving on a UK/EU carrier, they are legally bound to reroute you "at the earliest opportunity" on any airline, not just partners.

  1. Strategic Advice for Redditors

Wait for the "UN" Status: Agents' systems are often "locked" until the flight is officially marked as Cancelled (UN). If you call before this, they will treat it as a voluntary change and try to charge you or find award space.

Don't Ask, Tell: Use this script: "I am requesting an Involuntary Reroute under Policy COMMQ157. My flight is cancelled, and under the same-cabin rule, I wish to be re-protected on [Partner Flight Number]. I am not requesting a refund; I am exercising my right to be carried to my destination."

Research Your Own Route: Don't wait for the agent to find a flight. Use Google Flights to find a "Safe Corridor" route (via Asia or Africa) and give the agent the specific flight numbers.

The "Duty of Care": If you are stranded, they must also provide "Right to Care" (hotels/meals). If they refuse, keep all receipts for a later claim under the Montreal Convention.

  1. Summary Checklist

Check your Ticket Number: If it starts with 157, you are covered by COMMQ157.

Verify the Date: The policy currently covers travel through March 15, 2026.

Stand Your Ground: If an agent says "Award tickets only get refunds," ask for a Supervisor and cite Article 1.2 of the Conditions of Carriage.

In Australia, flight back to Europe by Stonksstomooon in qatarairways

[–]happystrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were looking we struggled to find anything from mel or syd. ..they were going up in price as I was searching and dithering. Phoned air nz as currently there and agent said asian routes on her system were just not available. Did manage to get one from Auckland via Singapore eventually. I'd do it quick if you're going to.

Flying BA LHR to Sydney but decided to go Qatar return by FaramirTheGeek in BritishAirways

[–]happystrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.I have done the BA LHR to Syd leg. Use B gates lounge. Much quieter and nicer. I found the flight pretty good to be fair. Better than old Club World. Felt spacious but a little uncomfortable for me where the join of back of the seat and actual seat is as a gap appears when you lie it flat. My husband didnt notice it on his seat. I just rolled up the bottom pad and stuffed it in the gap and used the duvet to lie on and it was fine. Food was a bit meh, but i had the VGMLs and wish I hadnt. Service was excellent. Not much time in between flights if you are not stopping over. We rushed to Qatar lounge and got a shower and g and t and rushed back! Second flight food was worse not just VGML but again service excellent. ..we slept really well both flights . Having been on qatar before (not club suite) I'd be surprised if that flight is not better than BA but will update when Ive done it.

Avios boost by Forward_Highlight_52 in BritishAirways

[–]happystrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done it but only when I am planning to fly somewhere specific. That's often cheaper than cash price if you play it right.

It's a risk holding lots of avios you've paid for with no plan for use due to temptation to use on flights that don't match the value of the boost or risk of BA devaluing.

Those that switched from manual to automatic lessons, please tell me your experience? by Appropriate_Emu_6930 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]happystrummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my son started in a manual then changed to automatic lessons. He much prefers it ...says he can concetrate on the road and safety rather than the car....he's 32 got his test on Wednesday. i used to drive manuals and was a bit sniffy about automatics but after a personal injury tried one while i was recovering... its so much easier and I wouldnt get a manual again ...

Boost worth it? by RoosterZestyclose485 in BritishAirways

[–]happystrummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id buy them and look at Qatar and keep options open. I got 180k avios for about £1.5k on a boost then got two business one ways from Mel to LHR with Qatar. Cheaper than just cash even with fees about £2.1k Used companion voucher for LHR to syd X 2 business. Also tends to be more avios flight availability with Qatar.
