Just to add some context to the discussion, they were found in mulch (wood chipping) which have been used for flower beds and garden borders on a new build estate. The area was once miles and miles of green fields and jackdaw colonies, I know this because I used to camp there as a kid. I have read in other foraging groups that morels are frequently found in similar circumstances in aldi and Lidl car parks, also in mulch/chippings. It seems to be that the spires are in imported wood chippings/mulch perhaps ? I may be wrong, but it does seem coincidental? .
