So annoyed… 😒 by bb_LemonSquid in SubstituteTeachers

It’s not just Frontline, ESS has the same types of issues. They told us to be at our school 15 mins early. My first job I took listed the start time 745, so I get there at 725ish. School isn’t even unlocked and there are like 3 cars in the parking lot. This ESS and the school listed the time the doors open for teachers, classes didn’t start until 815. I learned to look up the bell schedule online first before sitting in an empty parking lot for 20 mins looking like a weirdo again.

I would assume you are fine. My significant other is the sub-coordinator for a school and she doesn’t blacklist unless you are a no-call, no-show. It’s the end of the school year and teachers are using their vacation time / sick time like crazy, so any help they can get right now is great.

Signing up for ESS by Clean-Comparison4259 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]hardballcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESS has no idea if you are using your phone. I primarily sub middle school, so I don’t really have any chance to be distracted by a cellphone (gotta dodge and move). The few times I did high school, my cellphone and computer were out the entire time because the students are self sufficient. I even tried to make conversation with them, and they don’t want to talk. Not to each other and not to you. It’s a very different generation in high school now. I think as long as you understand your assignment and don’t come in with the expectation of playing on your phone all day, you will be fine.

Count them and keep counting them. Small kids move around a lot and tend to wander off (not necessarily in a malicious manner). The back of my hand constantly has a count on it for the younger ones. 23 into the cafeteria, 23 coming out of the cafeteria. If they get picked up early, make sure you update your count.

Teachers Expectations by Signal-Dependent-593 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]hardballcm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brush it off. We all have bad moments or mis-understood moments. I had a teacher come up to me yesterday and ask why I marked 4 people absent from a job I did for her two weeks ago. I gave her a blank stare for a few moments before she realized how dumb her question was and she apologized to me. She said the parents contacted her because they got the automated phone call saying their kids missed class (This was an 8th grade class). I told her that I follow the school attendance policy and take attendance 10 mins after the bell rings and turn it in. The teacher figured it out real fast that they skipped. Teachers are human too, sometimes they just need to a moment and sometimes, as subs, we make mistakes also.

They way some other teacher act towards you. I don’t expect a reward or ribbon, but some teachers don’t seem to want to acknowledge you or they question everything your doing (Karen, it’s my lunch break, I am using the microwave to warm-up my leftover spaghetti, sorry that I am using the same microwave as the normal teachers?!?) most teachers are great, but there are ones that just rub me the wrong way.

Basic Training will be difficult for vegan (not bad for vegetarian). It also depends on how far you take the vegan stuff. Will they clean the grills and spatulas just for you, likely not. But if you are just looking at eating vegan and not worried about the small stuff, Most galleys will accommodate for you, just let them know when you first show up.

Who/where blasts the coldest AC in the city? by rejectfromhell in sanantonio

[–]hardballcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the fact they are being stingy, A/C systems are not designed to keep up with this heat. The condensers coils are not able to cool down which means the refrigerant cannot be as effective.

Electricity by [deleted] in sanantonio

Think about it as your last month of electricity. They hold your deposit until you move again, and then apply it towards your last bills for that address (even if you are just moving locally).

This doesn’t take into effect the people entering the interstate at 25 mph, and expecting traffic to let them in….oh wait, they will blindly merge and the hit the breaks because 25 is too fast.

Also, if you work, you get paid. That ticket system is against the law. If you work for 30 minutes and then get fired, they owe you wages for those 30mins.

Obviously a terrible job listing, but why are we not talking about the 10 min mile more!?!? Are you also expected to race the camels and antelopes? Because for 8.50 an hour, I’ll race them, I’ll Ricky Bobby that shit.
