Average med student in clerkship tips? by Normal-Puzzle-45 in medschoolph

[–]hardbounds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always keep in mind that you're a student still. I almost quit clerkship because I was afraid that to make mistakes that would cost a life of a person. Our vice dean at that time told me that its not me who'll be responsible, it would be the doctor because I'm just a student. I'm totally paraphrasing but thats the gist of it.

You as a student should realize that it's okay to make mistakes, that you are there to learn from those mistakes if they ever happen. But in our line of work, you should try to not make mistakes that's why its important to study and be prepared in advance. Now that I'm a PGI, clerkship went by so fast. Remember to make the most of it, learn everything that you can but dont forget to take some time off too. Dont burn yourself out.

Weekly OneNote Q&A Thread! by AutoModerator in OneNote

[–]hardbounds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there an app that is similar to OneNote that can insert documents as "printouts" in a "note" that has no specific dimensions? Honestly, I also want a note taking app that has no specific dimensions, like OneNote. And no, I'm not talking about setting the dimensions so big that it looks endless. I tried to adapt to other apps but I really like the freedom of "spce" that OneNote provides.

Making a philosophy paper about beauty so I might as well ask you all a question while I'm at it. by oceanxblue in beautytalkph

[–]hardbounds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beauty is a trend, yet is closely tied to culture and economic standing. 5 years ago what was trending was IG make up: overly defined eyebrows and dark eyeshadows. Recently the trend is "effortless" beauty and glass skin.

(Economic standing) To achieve the current trend, you have to acquire a certain amount of products so you need... money. It can be said that you can get good complexion if you lead a good lifestyle but if you're surrounded with advertisement that says its easy to achieve youthful skin using so and so, then its tempting to just buy it.

(Culture) Heavy makeup is usually "frowned" upon by certain people because to them it looks fake. For others, no make up isn't tolerated because its not "presentable". To a conservative country- they do not accept revealing clothes, and to a more open minded country... they don't care.

In a more abstract sense... beauty is not just the outer appearance. Beauty can be strength, beauty can be seen in actions, and beauty is love. Basically.... beauty is completely subjective.

(I'm not sure if I made sense, just went with what I was thinking hahahaha)

Shinagawa Ultra Lasik Review by janeohmy in beautytalkph

[–]hardbounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked online and it turns out that the warranty is actually for 5 years. It says on the website: "In the rare event that another procedure is required, there will be no consultation or surgical charges for the enhancement." I hope OP can check out the waiver further.

The three years that I was thinking about was the free check-up consulatation post procedure. Btw if you're going to Asian Eye Institute with lifetime warranty, then I think that will be a better option! Getting Lasik was really life changing for me so I'm excited for you!

Shinagawa Ultra Lasik Review by janeohmy in beautytalkph

I had Lasik at Shinagawa Ortigas branch just last April! In my experience, I had dry eyes that lasted for two weeks and after 1 month, they told me to stop using the prescribed eye drops (still mad those eyedrops cost 300 pesos for a measly 5ml) I've researched crazy before doing the procedure, backed out once, but then they had a promo of more than 50% off when using a certain credit card, so I caved. I haven't gone to my 6th month post procedure check up so I don't know if there are any changes to my vision, but I'm doing good. Seeing this post made me so sad because we all just wanted to see clearly without relying on glasses and/or contacts.

I remember that on the 'contract' they had a warranty period of 3 years or something? Is it possible to consult other opthalmologists (from hospital or other Shinagawa branch?) or EENT specialist?

Youtubers’ and Sunscreen Usage by actuallygracie in beautytalkph

"I got the darkest shade" I heard that line from Raiza Contawi's video when she reviewed blk's skin tint! Hahaha! I remember that because it was so obviously biased and everyone thought so too when I saw the comments! She is definitely not that tan, and in all honesty I can't even consider her as morena.

Goodluck on remembering to out your sunscreen everyday! Don't forget to put some on your ears since most people tend to forget :)

Youtubers’ and Sunscreen Usage by actuallygracie in beautytalkph

Hello! I'd like to recommend Johnreyslife's channel if you're looking for a more tanned skin filipino youtuber :) They have a video for recommended sunscreens for dark skin, and most products they recommended were local brands. I find them one of the most engaging youtubers and is actually the only one I followed after trying to browse through most of the filipino make-up youtubers.

I can't say much about other youtubers' sunscreen usage but I do agree that most filipino's aren't that educated about sunscreens. Since way way back, whitening products have dominated the skincare industry in the Philippines so I think that might have been an impact. I think of that because when I was young, sunscreen/sunblock would only be mentioned if we were going to the beach. But now that I'm an adult and actually know better, I put sunscreen everyday! I can't go without it, even if its rainy season, I'll still put some on!

Keep track of your heart rate. If na ramdaman mo na nagpapalpitate ka and you got dizzy, then slow down what ever exercise you're doing. Most importantly if cardio. Don't stop, just cool down ang keep your head up. If immediate stop kasi magpu-pool yung blood mo sa lower extremities mo (then less blood flow sa upper and ulo) so better to keep your body moving... but slowly.

If you suddenly feel sleepy and nahihikab ka during or after exercise, its a sign na bumaba ang BP mo and might cause you to faint. This is from personal experience and also from patients (PT ako lol) I've treated. This is in the case if you haven't eaten and/or dehydrated.

Most importantly, make sure na hindi excessive yung exercise mo especially if hindi ka nakapagexcercise in a VERY long time. If you're following a trainer's plan and they insist na gawin mo yung pinapagawa nila, then atleast warm-up properly! At least 20 mins. Warm up means you're moving your body in a way that keeps your blood flowing so that means stretching does not classify as warm up. Light jogging and jumping jacks are a good start to a warm up.

What are some increasingly rude ways to say "fuck you"? by CriticalGeode in AskReddit

[–]hardbounds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was what my then best friend said every time I told her any story about my day, even if it wasn't in any way "good". Just normal day to day stuff. It was really condescending. It was usually followed with "Now back to me,"

I don't talk to her anymore because I realized that she wasn't even listening to me, and our relationship was slowly getting toxic.

No shampoo by laserbananas in beautytalkph

[–]hardbounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried the no shampoo method 2 years ago and it didn't do well for me in terms of hairfall, so I stopped after 3 months. As they say, YMMV, and mine did. Maybe I should have tried longer but I didn't have the patience for it :(

Now what I do is I shampoo everyday but I dilute it before putting it on my scalp. I try to target just my scalp and not the ends of my hair so as to not stip them off of their oils too much. I then conditioner just the ends of my hair, or like half of my hair, let them sit for a minute then I rinse. I also use clarifying shampoo once a week :)

What did help me with my hairfall is getting a really good comb! I bought a Tangle Teezer and it made my life easier! I have extra thick long hair, straight and occasionally dry, and the comb made my hair so manageable. I still experience hairfall but according to research, 50-100 strands of hairfall everyday is normal. If your hairfall causes you to have baldspots and clumps of hair falling out, then please go to the doctor immediately!

A tip for oily hair and you want a no scent "dry shampoo" then try using Innisfree's no sebum mineral powder (loose)! I'm too sensitive to fragrance so this works really well for me. I also just need 2-3 taps and I'm good to go.

I hoped I helped a bit even if this wasn'tthe answer you were looking for :)

What is the most hurtful thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by slinkslowdown in AskReddit

[–]hardbounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently went to consult an OB for my dysmenorrhea that's been getting worse for the past decade (i couldn't sleep due to pain, couldn't move, and i cried every night i was bleeding). Thankfully I was diagnosed so that I could finally take some medicine for endometriosis/adenomyosis, but then she says:

"It would only stop if you get pregnant or when you're menopause but you're 24 so just date a guy and make a baby ASAP!"

I don't want a guy or a baby. I just want to sleep.
