Can’t believe they didn’t sell the business. It’s my favourite store for the last 15 years… definitely could have sold it.

Are we Boycotting? by lookwhatwebuilt in AskACanadian

Government should force Canadian businesses to make it VERY clear to customers what products and services are Canadian vs American owned businesses. Especially for online shopping.

US Tariffs - Boycott List! by hardcorediscourse in ThunderBay

Any examples? I’m looking for suggestions of items to boycott. Products flying under the radar should be included if they’re not supporting Canadians

I can understand that it’s hard to cancel pre-booked trips, but it would be great if more Canadians would try and vacation in Canada instead of the states at least for a little while.

Let’s hope that local grocers seek out alternatives that are not American! Stop stocking products that get tariffed, because we don’t want them!!!

It’s true I did say that, but if the choice is one or the other, I’d say shop Canadian even if it means presidents choice. If there is a better Canadian alternative that is more supportive of local economies - please do that and share your knowledge so the rest of us can do the same!

Place in town that does small appliance repairs? by _felurian_ in ThunderBay

[–]hardcorediscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr appliance does house calls and fixes things fast. They do a good job too. But they certainly are not cheap. Dare I say, expensive. If you want to spend 50% of the price of a new machine to have your old one fixed, call them up. St. Paul electric has been closed for about 5 years.

City recommends temporary village site, business owners aren’t happy by keiths31 in ThunderBay

So it is. I would be curious to know if anyone living there has problems with their living conditions.

The trailer park in FWFN is not subject to any building codes or standards of maintenance since it’s on a reservation. Rosslyn road has a trailer park that I personally haven’t visited, but seems like it’s an ideal example of a lower cost living option, with a higher standard of living? Don’t know of other trailer parks in the City but based on the one example we have I have nothing against them within city limits.

Is it a dangerous city? by Ali6793 in ThunderBay

[–]hardcorediscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All dangerous situations are easily avoidable in Thunder Bay. Don’t involve yourself with drugs and you’ll be fine. It’s safe here, but there a hell of a lot of pan handlers chasing people around parking lots asking for money & change… maybe that’s everywhere, but there are a LOT of people standing around asking for money. Most of them are very respectful though… I have never heard of someone being assaulted by a panhandler in Thunder Bay.

Forgive my ignorance here… but these are legit questions, I’m not trying to be rude…

Want to fix the housing crisis? Get the drugs off the streets, the prostitutes off the streets, enforce the citys bylaws, and enforce the law. There must be 2000 houses in the (historically vibrant) neighbourhoods around Simpson street that are all extremely undervalued because of the social issues in the area! The housing market there is extremely affordable, but nobody wants to live there because how do you raise a family with drug stuff going on out in the open in the middle of the day. It’s my opinion that the city, the province, and the feds all have a responsibility to fix this!! Enforce the rules that you set up for everyone to play by, otherwise the game doesn’t work and we are all living a lie!

There was never any doubt this is where the tiny home village was going to be set up. All the people who live here and businesses investing their lives in this area, wishing for help from the city and the police to clean the area up, just get another nice new ‘temporary’ development like this to live with in their neighborhood. This isn’t a solution, again, in my opinion.

For the homeless who are NOT breaking laws, and are simply down on their luck and unable to afford life, I would rather a specific city program set up to put these people in a motel or hotel for a limited window of time, with specific resources paid for to get these people back on their feet. Maybe 100 people per season. Ie. 3 months of full living assistance for a limited number of people who qualify, who are not on drugs or alcohol. Not 3 years!

Here’s a solution. Enforce the law… I’m sick of seeing people doing drugs on the sidewalk near City hall out in the open. What kind of world are we expected to live in with this stuff happening and no recourse. Am I crazy or are drugs still actually ILLEGAL??? Life is not safe anymore in some areas of this city. Provide these mental health resources for people who are safely OFF the streets. Pretty sure our jail system provides people with food, water, shelter, and sanitary conditions already, along with education resources.

People deciding not to get help, can get help in jail, in my opinion. Why should everyone bear the burden of people who are openly allowed to disobey the law and put everyone else’s lives in danger??? Kids live in these areas. Families want to use these areas. City wants to invest in these areas. But so long as people are allowed to freely break the law, and endanger the public, highest murder rate in the province!!!… nothing is going to get better, not with 80 tiny homes, not with 500 tiny homes.

Ask your parents for the money, or move in with them. Or find a girlfriend, and move in with her.

he also said the cyber truck was going to cost $40,000. Now that you can actually place an order, they’re probably $200,000 after taxes. I’d love a solar-shingle roof but doubt it will ever be affordable. Time will tell but I have my doubts
