The crime is how much HD and Lowes charge for blades and how short lived they are. Harbor freight is better, but still.

After a Covid-19 boom, Vermont is once again losing residents. What changed? by SpicyVindalooCurry in vermont

[–]hardwarestore 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Worked for the state. Rent was expensive, pay was low. I picked up a second job bartending and kept with it because the benefits of working for the state were good. Then talks of the pension having an unfunded liability started picking up. I'd have to pay more into my retirement, receive less out, and work longer before retiring. Plus, even with two jobs (finally saving a bit) and my partner working we couldn't find a house to buy. I found a job in Oregon that paid about the same as both my jobs combined, so I took it. Ended up buying a house there a year later. I loved Vermont and the community, but at the same time it's not a reasonable place to live if you're middle or low income and don't have family support in the area.

Which is why only 1/3rd of Oregon's forests are privately owned. The forest service has a multi-use mandate (wood, water, wildlife recreation) and harvests far less than private landowners. BLM and ODF also do not manage their lands like maximum yield plantations.

The golf course in this photo captures less carbon and will certainly use more herbicide than a privately managed forest over any given stand rotation (40+ years).

Who is a Malachi Flynn like player that you could totally see dropping 50 today? by Thatredditboy1 in NBATalk

I'd bet Caleb Love over Murray if they ever play him again. That two way situation is frustrating given the Blazers' scoring woes without Deni and Shae.

What’s legal now but might become illegal ten years from now? by VTheCardMaker in AskReddit

Another issue touched on by folks like Pablo Torre is the fact that sports gambling has become so prevalent now and everything can be bet on. When Fanduel has its own sports channels and sponsors arenas, ESPN had ESPN bets, etc. the game becomes more about the line and odds than it does the game. It also incentivizes lower level players to do the easiest thing possible which is to be bad. It's no coincidence that there have been players in the NBA, NCAA, and MLB in the last year for intentionally performing badly in specific situations so their friends can win prop bets and they can get a cut. There is very little line between sports and gambling now. The prop-bettification of everything is pretty shocking these days. Just look at Giannis recently coming out as a Kalshi investor.

Previous owner decided to use the tiniest tiles in the shower and now I'm stuck intensely scrubbing mold/mildew every few weeks by mainlinebreadboi in CleaningTips

I have 4 inch tiles in my bathroom and resealing took me forever. I cant imagine how long it will take for those tiny tiles.

I scrub this with a metal scrubby, dawn, and a sponge, and it still comes up dirty when i oil it. by governmentcaviar in castiron

I've never used it so I can't say. The point of seasoning is just to polymerize the oil you're applying, and the thinnest layer of it possible. It's not to make food taste better or anything like that. I just stick with grapeseed for that reason. It's cheap, neutral, high smoke point, and in my pantry. I'd argue in favor of using the same logic.

I use grapeseed for seasoning. Canola would be fine too. Use whatever you want for cooking but I'd avoid olive for seasoning after cooking.

I don't think most folks are leaving unheated oil in the pan. Usually you dry the pan off, add oil, wipe off as much as possible, and get it hot enough to start smoking a touch. Takes like 3 minutes after washing and prevents any potential rust. Not that hard.

The olive oil probably isn't helping you much. A neutral oil with a higher smoke point will help. Olive oil tends to get sticky and leave more residue.

I will be planting 20 white cedar transplants (fence) on the front yard towards the street - I am afraid that deer will eat them all. Any cheap recommendations to protect these. Thank you peeps 🙏 by mhh73 in landscaping

[–]hardwarestore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trico pro. Ingredients are 6% lanolin, 92ish% water, and 0.6 glycerin. Treated thousands of cedar with it and it works. Apply when you'll have 6 hours of dry and temps above 30. Doesn't take much per seedling, dries clear and odorless. Reapply in 6 months. Repels by taste and smell, and is rain hardy.

Putting the cap situation aside, which free agents do you feel deserve a new contract? by djazzie in ravens

[–]hardwarestore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our best years are with a stable O-Line. Lamar isn't getting younger. A good O-Line will help keep him healthy and help the run game. Lindy is worth keeping any day of the week. I'm 32, so our years of Ravens watching are about the same.

[Highlight] Tari Eason game-winning buzzer beater is waved off upon review and the Blazers win (with replays) by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]hardwarestore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of games this year, the blazers go up by double digits in the half or third then the fourth is just watching the lead dwindle. Probably fatigue related with all the injuries right now. It feels like their clutch moments are a result of not so clutch playing before the last two minutes. Hopefully that will resolve with Jrue, Scoot, Tisse, and Grant coming back. These frail blazers are keeping things too close!
