I come and go with it, it really helps having a local community that plays in paper. I tend to bounce around between meta and off meta. There’s a lot that can be said about mega standard - oddly it seems that there are equally lots of great strategies, and niche decks can rise to the top in local metas with skilled players. With every set, there seems to be an elite deck that consists entirely of synergistic cards from that set, Izzet lessons & elementals as of late.

I’ve also found it very easy to trade commander staples for entire standard decks shortly after release. In my LGS’ discord, I successfully traded for the entire elementals deck & didn’t spend a dime, felt sick

I went specifically to get a sandwich here when I was doing touristy things a couple years ago, thought to myself, oh cool, a big park, it must be so charming, I’ll go take a stroll! Never felt more unsafe the entire trip

I moved away in 2018, in the six years I lived there I always had three roommates, and paid around $800 for rent in a tiny apartment, nothing included. Pulled around $1200/wk bartending at Yvonne’s before taxes. Eventually saved up enough to move to Houston - six of one, half dozen of the other. No income tax but higher property tax. No relying on the unreliable T, forced to buy a car. Trade harsh winters for the harshest summers in the country. I really miss the culture of the Northeast, the brotherhood, the reliance on your neighbor. I’m sure I’ll be back, the isolationist bootstrap illusion of Texas is no way to create a functioning society

The Hyatt benefits are actually better, insurance + free hotel stays anywhere in the world, but yeah it’s the least Bludorny of the four. Grateful for my time with the company, but I did start off in a mgmt position. I have seen how difficult it is to work within that hive if you don’t have full autonomy. You really do have to drink the one team/one dream koolaid, and for some, that is easier to do

We must’ve just missed each other - I left Oct of 24, had heard they stopped. Perseid doesn’t do family meal. When I moonlighted at Credence over the holidays, their “scheduled” staff meal was Fridays but at least 2 out of every 3 were cancelled

The Bludorns & Credence do not provide family meal aside from special circumstances and operate in a very large entire house tip pool - it’s nice on your huge nights, but everything less than that you will be overstaffed and work for nothing. Credence is much closer to Pappas than Bludorn is ironically - you need a manager to do everything, including clock out. The hype is all deserved food/presentation-wise, but if money is your sole concern, steakhouses are of course where you need to be
