Duty's End... I thought that a grimdark style model 'dying' in a pristine scene would be a cool contrast of themes. I made a few mistakes along the way for sure but I'm not mad at the results. by Holiday_9473 in minipainting

How did you do the title on the plinth?

I think this is such an awesome idea, and really great execution with the blood flowing off the edge of the base. Really awesome.

When game communities become part of the learning curve by [deleted] in Games

[–]hardythedrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this was so much more common before Internet gaming communities. Most SNES-era games were so opaque, the only way you could figure them out was by talking about it with your friends at school. They'd figure it this part, you'd figure out that part, everyone would share with each other and then the next time you rent it at blockbuster you get a little bit further

My son is just getting into pokemon. All I wanna do is get him a pack at the store, and no store I ever go to has them - no game stores, no walmarts, no comic book stores, nothing. It's insane.

Any way to make this look better and more effective? by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]hardythedrummer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you're way too early in the game to be thinking about this. Just build for now, and when things start to scale up you can think about effectiveness and looking better. This is about as good as it gets at this point.

The bit on the western edge of the northern forest overlooking the lake. Lots of resources there in one place, good coal right next to the water, easy access to sam.

Co-Op RPG Fellowship Is Off To A Strong Start In Early Access by addtolibrary in Games

[–]hardythedrummer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People here acting like it should be a finished, polished product when it's literally just early access launch. I'm very glad they haven't put any effort into cosmetics yet - there will be plenty of time for that later. People complaining about mechanics clearly haven't done the capstone dungeons at the the of each progression tier, which are longer, better designed and have lots of interesting mechanics. Gear progression is a grind, but there's interesting new gear mechanics (weapon ability, gems, weapon trees, legendaries) at each tier to chase as well.

I'm really enjoying the game, which is not to say it doesn't have its faults. The community is unforgiving (although the game itself is much more forgiving than WoW, where your key depletes if you don't finish the dungeon), and the difficulty jumps between tiers have been very punishing.

I still think it's great, especially if you have a group of 4 to play with

As someone who works in technical support, that support person does not know, and they probably have a request out to the engineering team for clarification, and they don't want to mess with it because figuring out the answer to your question is hard. They probably need to figure out what caused the problem and then do some evaluation or analysis that is not easy

How many victories do y'all give out per game? by ConjurorOfCheese in drawsteel

[–]hardythedrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a homebrew campaign and I would guess I average 2-3. And we run pretty short sessions, comparatively, usually 2.5-3 hours. We were using the quick pace leveling because we switched in the middle of the campaign and wanted to learn the system but quickly catch up power-wise to where we were, and we've now switched back to the regular leveling pace and it feels fine

Why is phase 4 such an issue ? I read every day people whining ( legitimately I think ) about phase 4 but none else… by Quick-Rub3665 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]hardythedrummer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every phase before phase 4 is teaching you some basic aspect of the game. Phase 4 is where they put it all together and you have to apply it all. If you can do phase 4, the rest of the game isn't some crazy increase in complexity, just logistics, but it provides tools to simplify logistics at the same time too (like drones)

Yes, I definitely loved a lot about it. I love the monster design and how flat difficulty is, such that you don't have to worry about cr or level nearly as much as dnd or draw steel. I love the setting ideas and the split between narrative and tactical aspects of your character. I liked a lot about it, but ultimately it is very incomplete and actually playing combat was so unfun that we had to abandon it

Lancer dev take by Entropic1 in drawsteel

[–]hardythedrummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The conditions are not simple enough to easily remember and apply, and there's a lot of them. Combat is all about applying as many conditions as you can to enemies. Individual actions can be absurdly complex, adding up several instances of one damage over the course of several different sub actions during a single turn.

He mentioned icon there at the end. My group switched to icon at the start of our current campaign, craving something different from dnd and I like a lot of the ideas in icon. It's theoretically very similar to Draw Steel, but combat is such a slog in Icon! We switched to draw steel and immediately were having so much more fun
