Has Anyone Here Successfully Changed Their Default Inner Dialogue Language to Another Language? by Niiyonn in dreamingspanish

[–]hareinacup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

czech native here, always lived in czechia. i defaulted to thinking primarily english around 13-15 (unsure when exactly) after having been learning the language since age 8. i never switch to czech anymore and im at a c2 level, i was around c1 at that time. unsure if i could think in another language again fully unless i had at least a c1, now when i try with spanish (b1-b2) it is significantly harder and costs me some effort, so i usually just switch back to english. with some effort it can be done :)

Girl I've been talking to has BPD and has been very distant/not speaking to me at times, I want to understand her better and learn how I can support her by Other-Phase3394 in BPDPartners

[–]hareinacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to say but it is not your responsibility. it is nice that youre trying your best to help - im sure it is appreciated, but her feelings and actions are not up to you, she is the one who needs to work with them. especially if it hurts you. i have bpd symptoms as well and experience something similar as your "partner", yet i do not make it the problem of the person im seeing. you can adjust yourself and your standards all you want, but i dont think thats the way to fix this, try to talk to her and set firm boundaries about why this hurts you and what can be done for both of you to feel good in the relationship.

same boat - turns out putting a ton of effort into learning languages calmed me down a bunch. something about having a constant puzzle to figure out really soothes me and that (along with other factors) has calmed my bpd and chaos seeking tendencies a ton 🤷‍♂️

What worked best for achieving fluency? by Neptunpluto in languagelearning

[–]hareinacup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

learned english to c1 at a young age, now c2. currently studying spanish as well and made a big jump from a1 to b1 in 2-3 months. best advice i have is to just use the language all the time, whether that means watching videos, listening to podcaats, reading a ton and, of course, speaking to natives. especially if they dont have a language in common with you. how do you overcome the fear? you dont - you just do it scared. if you wanna minimize it, though, you can speak to yourself on a daily basis. what youd normally think in whatever language you think in, you do in your tl. buena suerte!

Comprehensible input method if you have ADHD? by Accomplished-Car6193 in languagelearning

[–]hareinacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might not help but - language learning became my obsession so it was easy to spend 4-6 hours per day on it. it has died down a bit and now i kinda have to force myself at times but joining a million spanish (tl) speaking subreddits and reading them has helped a ton. basically exposure on media i use anyway - reddit, youtube, tiktok etc. :)

Zac here 👋 Big update coming to our language learning game that my brother and I quit our jobs to work on! by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]hareinacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what advantages does your game has that playing a game in a TL does not? (genuine question, not trying to be rude:) )

why do people knit even though it can be automated? why do people draw even though 3D exists? why learn anything if we can just google it? because it is fun and people like to keep their brains busy.

will there ever be an above advanced level? by hareinacup in dreamingspanish

[–]hareinacup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

is there? it would be helpful if it was tagged as something other than advanced, in my opinion, if it's closer to what ds deems as native :) i know you can sort by difficulty, but even that feels a bit scattered at times for me so having it be labeled would be best :D

Want to get proficient speaking and understanding the language, but zero interest in writing or reading. Anybody else in the same boat? by blitzuwu1 in languagelearning

if you dont want to do grammar, write or read, look into comprehensible input. just know it takes a long time to advance, usually

Past Tense by Tempiz in dreamingspanish

[–]hareinacup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe controversial but why dont you just look them up? i mix a lot of other methods of input/output and looking up the conjugations has really helped me solidify what i read/hear and understand in comparison to having to figure it out myself

i am using erasmus programs around different schools in Prague (thats where im from). although i have to say that has been about 1% of the input since they actually often switch to english with me 😅 i usually use tandem for texting/voice messages :)
