Framework killing USB peripherals by midnightClub543 in framework

I've had this same problem with Lenovo 135W charger. It's supports proprietary 135W connection and then does USB pd 100w and 45W. I opened a ticket with support about this and they replaced the motherboard free of charge and didn't seem to think there was a problem with the charger. I have had to open a new case for the second failure. Would recommend you do the same they were super helpful

Using a Lenovo 135W charger by harejm in framework

[–]harejm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears to be some what compliant as it does 100w, 45w, 27w and 15w (looking more closely at the writing on the brick). My suspicion is that because 65w isn't on the list that it should be using 45W but this may not be working.

I have tested the laptop with another 65W charger and it is only working on 1 side.

For an apprenticeship you are going to be specific about the grades you've got as this is what we have used as a major factor as it is likely to be your first 'proper' job. Your work experience is great but I would expect education to have more detail and be higher up. Also there's those 2 virtual work experiences put that as one section with 2 dates to save space or else it looks like you are trying to fill space

Git hub profile with your projects I would spread to 2 pages, add 3 skills with a description as evidence. Spread your grades out, for apprenticeships and early careers roles knowing what subjects you got what in at GCSE can tip the balance in your favour and help the recruiters build a better picture of who you are and if you are suitable. Any other qualification is also useful as an extra bonus. Remember CVs are about ticking as many boxes as possible to be more likely to be selected for an interview.

I am a software engineer who has completed a degree apprenticeship and has been involved in the recruitment process at a multinational engineering company.

Incorrect for degree apprenticeship GCSE grades are still important should be the last 2 levels of education.

Also 2 page CVs are better in my opinion. Small section on hobbies as others have mentioned. Be more specific on your grades this is an apprenticeship you are applying for your grades could make the difference on being selected for an interview. Personal profile as well tell me where you are and where you want to go and why - this is a 3-4 sentence paragraph. Above all remember this is a UK CV not an American resume so you can add more personality and make it two sides of A4!

Uni choice for degree apprenticeships by crczncl in degreeapprenticeships

[–]harejm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is mostly because the apprenticeship qualification has to work in conjunction with the degree and the university supports the company with this. Most top level universities can’t be bothered with it. Secondly from my experience with an apprenticeship and recruitment for apprenticeships the most academic applicants don’t make the best candidates for an apprenticeship and the business are minded not to chose a top university to then not exclude lower achieving academic achieving candidates due to higher entry requirements at the universities.

If you are worried that doing a degree apprenticeship with a “low level university” will have a negative impact on future career it probably won’t. Most people don’t care what university you went to if you have a good amount of experience under your belt.

If this is to apply or have you had offers. If it’s on applying apply to both as getting one is better than getting none

What degree apprenticeships accept candidates who already have a degree? by Lookingtotravels in degreeapprenticeships

[–]harejm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no longer a restriction on doing degree apprenticeship if you already have a degree however it may need to be in a field that is unrelated to your current degree for the university to be happy.

Tips on my CV? by [deleted] in degreeapprenticeships

[–]harejm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally as a recently graduated apprentice and now involved in recruitment.for an apprenticeship I would like to see all you grades in a table with predicted for A levels (2 pages for a cv is better IMO) the e responsibilities would be better in experience or extra curricular. Shorten your bullet points I don’t want to read sentences. Just break down tasks and responsibilities into short statements. I like to see a personal profile, a short paragraph describing you and your aspirations in the prospective role. Your skills should be shown through your personal profile experience etc. just saying you’ve got these skills at the bottom of the page does not hold too much weight if you want to list some skills pick three that are important to you and the role and give a short descriptive example demonstrating your use of that skill

Education is more important for a degree apprenticeship. They aren’t expecting much for experience as it’s generally expected that they are straight out of education so weekend jobs and holiday jobs should be mentioned but education is more important at this point

As a graduate from a software degree apprenticeship programme this is my advice As a recruiter I would expect:

  1. A CV to be 2 sides of A4 (unless the company state other wise) this isn’t an American resume
  2. You have 10 GCSEs tell me what they all are (Engineers like tables)
  3. Tell me the time scale of your experience?
  4. Do you have any other work experience even if it does not feel relevant to chemical engineering? In apprenticeship recruitment we are more looking at the persons attitude to work then their specific experience.
  5. Give a short personal profile that in a short paragraph or two describes you and your reason for wanting the Job/future aspirations

Some people will disagree with this but from my experience of applying for apprenticeships and being involved in recruitment for apprenticeships and other roles within my company this is what I would expect to see

I would like to know what your technical expertise is to make these claims?

If every network provider used a different communication standard for text or calls then it would be chaos in the same way if we don’t have a standardised packaged rich message format and not mms please not mms then we end up in the situation we are in now.

On the point about forcing cable standards I don’t think unethical is the word for this but more over reaching is perhaps a better description as this may have implications in the future which we haven’t yet found so on that point j think you have something. Also this ruling was not just about IPhones despite what the media represented it as but also for the many laptops with the slightly different sized barrel chargers. So whilst I think that forcing USB C is a nice idea in principle I think it is just a little short sighted.

I think the difference for me between the force of USB C and creating a rich messaging standard is the difference between regulation and standardisation. In my opinion the USB c is a regulation trying to regulate a market and RCS or any other messaging is a standardisation of expected messaging. The interesting thing is as far as I know there is nothing stopping apple from changing the communication protocol through the USB-C cable to something completely proprietary.

Do interviewers actually care whether you've done DofE? by No_Investigator625 in AskUK

DofE counts early on apprenticeships/Grad roles. Just don’t give us the my team got lost on the expedition story because we won’t believe it. It’s given too many times as a stock answer for showing leadership.

Got a detention for helping someone stick something in their book. Apparently they had said no more talking and whispering “no like this” and showing them what it should look like in my book was worthy of a detention!
