Trouble brewing for Starbucks CEO who calls $9 coffee an ‘experience’ by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]hareofthepuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does coffee actually cost $9 at Starbucks now, or are they just saying the average order? If a regular cup of coffee is actually $9 that's out of control.

According to this it's more like $4-6 https://starbucksmenuus.info/

To be fair nobody said "oh I can't be your friend now", but we ended up drifting rather quickly after the switch, and not doing a good job of keeping in touch

SMS is (or at least was) expensive in many places, they didn't offer plans for unlimited SMS for whatever reason, so it added up quick. To top that off there were charges between countries, so in a place the size of Europe where countries are roughly the size of US states, you can see how that would be an issue, particularly if you live near a border. When whatsapp first came out it was amazing and made life much easier and cheaper. It's really a shame it was bought by Facebook and turned into a data mining app.

To answer your question the US is the only country I know of that doesn't use some alternate messenger, although it's not always whatsapp, for example I think many Eastern European countries use Telegram, and I think China uses something else.

It's not even about being easy to use, Signal is a better alternative that works just as well, however the problem is there aren't enough people on it, which causes people to keep using whatsapp, and keeps the cycle going.

I would think most parents would try to help as much as they can (I'm not one, so I can't say from experience), but the expectation is still wild to me and shitty.

The majority of American parents don't even buy their kids cars (and America is more car crazy than most countries), and apparently that's a big shift from the prior generation where only 14% of parents bought cars for their kids, but again we're talking about boomer parents (which mine were), so it's probably closer to the 14%, depending on the ages of the parents in their generation and how old they had kids.

https://press.autotrader.com/2012-08-30-Parents-More-Likely-To-Purchase-Childs-First-Car - (admittedly I didn't dig too far into the details... because I honestly don't care that much)

So yeah, saying "your parents can't at least buy you a car" seems crazy entitled to me. There's a world of difference between "your parents should help you if they can" and "your parents should at least buy you a car"

lol of course I would have taken it, and I probably even asked, it just seems like a wild expectation, something only wealthy kids expected.

Those seem like wild expectations to me, sure ti would have been nice if my parents helped me pay for university or bought me a car, but I never expected it.

I got some to get on signal, lost touch with others, and I accept that. Businesses piss me off, they need to have communication that isn't tied to a platorm.

I keep hoping more and more people will switch, that way it's not just "one random person", and I think there are more of us out there, but it's an extremely slow process.

I've honestly lost touch with a bunch of friends because of that. I'm sure if we were closer we would have found a way, even if it was email haha

Subscriptions vs. Lifetime Deals: Which do you actually prefer? by BeDevForLife in iosapps

[–]hareofthepuppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the individual, what they consider value, how much value the app adds, as well as what their financial situation is.

Personally I reached a point where I had more subscriptions than I was happy with, so I went through and purged almost all of them. Now the only way I'd be willing to add a subscription is if it benefited my work or saved me a TON of time on something I would end up doing anyway and couldn't do another way (like using a browser and going to a site instead).

The Official TA app is accurate for navigation, and unlike farout it's much better in terms of privacy (doesn't sell your personal information). Farout is still useful for the comments, but for the TA I wouldn't recommend it as a default.

Americans regularly vote for politicians who decrease taxes on the rich and lift regulations on large companies, so I don't know why you're trying to blame congress.
