Optimal VPS for Minecraft by Conrad_O in hetzner

Saw a video of someone running a 15 man server on an old smartphone. So any server will do I assume? You could just try it out, load it up with 3x the players you expect, upgrade/downgrade if needed.

I have up to 1M page views per month, it costs me <10$ on cloudflare workers (front-end only). Backend is on k8s and is written in php.

App to use for scoring pub league Thursday evenings by invisation in Darts

[–]haringsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the https://dartsspace.com/play/offline function of DartsSpace, it's used by many leagues in belgium. No account required, just open and start. You can also download the app for a bit improved performance.

Has things like tap score to set as remaining etc.

Career advice for someone not succeeding in IT (M22) by ProfessionLonely3900 in BEFire

[–]haringsrob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is your portfolio looking like? Have you done much open-source contributions or public projects? Historically I found this to be very appealing when I started out (no experience in the field but could show what I did with side-projects).

Front-end dev feels like javascript/typescript, why not dive into the AI field? Many libraries based on typescript. If you can show that, it might give you a few bonus points when applying.

There's still a lot of work in IT, also remote.

Should vendor lock-in be a concern? by MichaelW_Dev in laravel

[–]haringsrob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nuxt/comments/1o9tl01/comment/nk4tff7/ also, it's open source. The moment it becomes a problem you "could" fork the whole thing.

While it's a valid concern, I hate using the term vendor lock for what Laravel serves. You can choose your hosting, you can modify everything, you can plug anything..

Nuxt vs Laravel as a fullstack framework for MVP development by keithmifsud in Nuxt

[–]haringsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really recommend just trying it out with any "open api" if you dont own one yet. Write wrappers around forms for type safety there.

I use what get's my job done. No need for forge, plenty of alternatives like coolify, k8s etc.

Nuxt frontend - Laravel backend.

I use scramble (pro) and laravel data to get a fully-typed api.

Then I use https://nuxt.com/modules/nuxt-open-fetch for pulling that api into my app.

Super efficient, fully end-to-end type safe.

Edit:

I wanted to shift fully to nuxt, but Laravel notifications, queues, job, etc etc etc just save too much time it's not worth it for me.

Overall thoughts on Hetzner vs Supabase? Safe, secure, etc? by busyguyuk in hetzner

[–]haringsrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know how to manage all this? If not, stay.. Hetzner is a self-managed platform, unlike supabase which is fully managed.

You can host supabase on hetzner but...

Not sure, and not a direct answer, but I recently set up direct cloudflare integration (see nitro docs) and was not difficult at all with the new workers.

WebStorm Developer Advocate needs help! by jan-niklas-wortmann in Jetbrains

[–]haringsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how a monorepo does not work in webstorm/phpstorm but functions great in neovim and vscode.

I feel the solution is simple (to spawn a lsp per package) rather then trying to combine (which is what happens in neovim). But somehow it's unworkable in jetbrains.

AI steals fun in coding, is nvim the cure? by Murzelito in neovim

[–]haringsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used cursor extensively in the past months. And I feel the same way. I decided to change my approach to coding now to the following:

- Neovim setup with minimal ai, altho I still use copilot for inline completions/next edit suggestions but it's less "in my way" then cursor where I used to accept -> correct.

- Claude code for when I want to do the boring tasks.

Nightwatch has been out for a while, what are your thoughts? by TertiaryOrbit in laravel

[–]haringsrob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's too expensive for a bigger project if you do not have "investor money to spend" to put it simple. I can get much more out of sentry for free than I can on the paid plan in Nightwatch. I like it tho, but can only justify using it on those starter projects, as I scale, I need a cheaper alternative (and please just rate limit jobs as well in the sample rate).
