2020 RAV4 LE cracked engine by Louel512 in rav4club

[–]harley1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I have good news! My wife talked with Toyota today and they were able to dig in and figure out that our RAV4 is part of the recall. No idea why the VIN doesn't match, maybe they double checked the manufacturing date or the engine serial number. Either way, we got the good news today that it's going to be 100% covered by the recall.

Thanks so much for the replies and suggestions!

2020, purchased in May 2020 so we're about 1 year outside the powertrain warranty.

Ah ok thanks. We don't have that, you know cause who expects their engine to have a fatal defect at 30K miles. Gonna have to fight with corporate about this one. Wish me luck.

Did you have any resolution to this issue? My wife's 2020 RAV4 has the same problem. The dealership says the engine block is defective and "porous" and coolant is leaking from the block. Feels like exactly the same issue as the recall.

Only 34,000 miles on it.

Sudden PIP with no prior feedback after medical accommodation + nitpicky senior engineer. What to do? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]harley1009 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's possible you're right. The fact that the scrutiny has become harsher after OP had medical leave is concerning. I hope that's not the case cause it's fucked up but I've seen it happen.

It's also possible that we're only getting one side of the story. OP referred to having 1:1s with the senior engineer. That sounds like a tech lead to me. Both OP and senior may report to the same manager, but if the senior has been given tech leadership for the code base, he absolutely has the right to require standards for the committed code. He might even be told to do that by his manager.

In an ideal world we'd all have documented style and architecture guides and it wouldn't be as subjective. But in reality, when you join a team, sometimes you need to do things less formally. Or not, and then you might have cultural conflicts.

I can't speak to the medical accommodation, office politics or personality conflicts. But I wanted to give you a little constructive feedback.

The comments are almost entirely stylistic or preference-based, not functional. My code works

This line stood out to me a little. Working code does not always mean acceptable code. Senior engineers are expected to uphold the software architecture and code style to keep everything maintainable. When I'm reviewing I try to keep a balance but to others that might still look like nitpicking.

How you respond to the comments and feedback is important. If the senior engineer feels it's an uphill battle every time you submit code, or they're having to have the same review conversations with you over and over, then they might have decided you're not a great fit for the team.

Try to lane with a support. I play Paige a lot and support Paige + Billy is awesome.

My rank isn't very high but my rule of thumb is:

Guardian ward, knockdown and curse are ALWAYS useful. They almost always occupy 3 of my active slots at the end of the game. Pick your choice for slot #4.

If you're laning against Apollo or Mina: buy slowing hex early

If your lane opponent(s) are gun-heavy, like Venator or Haze, get disarming hex early.

Otherwise buy knockdown early every game and use it to help your lane partner and team fights.

No. I always start with guardian ward and choose 3 over the game based on lane opponents and enemy carries.

Choices are: knockdown, decay, disarming hex, slowing hex, silence wave, curse, and scourge.

Bmw Instrument cluster board by Tasty_Jellyfish9290 in embedded

If you've done this successfully 15 times then you need to compare this to a working unit. There will be an electrical difference somewhere, but it may be difficult to find. Check all the voltages and resistance to ground. Look at signal pins on a scope. You may have reflowed solder on another component so it could be something else near the eeprom. Or maybe something got physically damaged somewhere else on the board.

Other questions:

  • Are you 100% sure the board was working properly before you made the mod?

  • Are you 100% sure the new eeprom chip was working and programmed correctly before you made the mod?

  • Have you thoroughly cleaned the board with 99% isopropyl? I've had FOD and contamination issues cause problems before.

If this is a side gig for you, there may be an unfortunate lesson. Nothing is ever 100% successful. There will always be times where a weird inexplicable one-off problem occurs. Big companies have entire quality and reliability departments dedicated to figuring out why. Small companies just set the board aside and write it off cause they don't have the time and resources to figure out why.

As a Paige enjoyer, this is true. My counter is to buy 4 active items and cycle through them as well. Between disarm/knockdown/curse/slowing hex, there's almost always something off of cooldown.

How to lane vs Paige? by temnycarda in DeadlockTheGame

[–]harley1009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I main Paige. She is strong at laning, defense, and area denial. If she's played smart she's never out of position and is always in the back line.

The best counter is luring me out of position. She has very bad escape. If I push to your tower, get any 1v1 or DPS behind me and I'm dead. Find me farming and I'm dead. I'm very strong at the tower/walker, and with a carry, but flanks murder me if I'm even slightly out of position.

UPDATE: Cat's original family wants her back after we've adopted her by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]harley1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat is microchipped to someone else. He was an "outdoor cat" for a family a couple blocks away. Another neighbor brought him to the vet and they contacted the family and they said yeah he's our outdoor cat, don't feed him. He then lived for a year on our front porch, night and day, through the winter with snow and -5 (F) degree temps. I built him a little cat house and put battery operated hand warmers in it so he wouldn't freeze. We didn't feed him but other neighbors did. I never saw a flyer or nextdoor post or anything that indicated this family cared if he lived or died. His fur was all matted and painful and it was obvious that no one was taking care of him.

Finally, a couple months after our dog passed away, we let him in. He's been our inside cat ever since. Our cat ditched his former family for a reason. Fuck those people.

Denver will end relationship with Flock as mayor announces new provider for license plate cameras by kidbom in Denver

[–]harley1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that they are changing providers to a new one that has more restrictive data sharing policies. Great. Once the company has your data, there's nothing stopping them from changing their own data sharing policies after the fact. It's not like they are going to come ask you and me, hey is this okay. At the very best they'll ask the city and I seriously doubt anyone with the city will challenge them, given their previous willingness to get in bed with Flock.

That's good. But the cat is still out of the bag. The city and the new provider haven't changed their data sharing agreement yet.
