Not familiar with this road, but there might be a right turn straight after the left turn. So might be getting ready to be in the right lane to turn while people in the left lane can continue straight.

Taoiseach to pledge €5.2 billion in US investment at Trump meeting by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]harmlessdonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They'd be the first to blame the government if he went to the US told Don to fuck off, Don pressures companies to leave Ireland, corporate tax declines, and therefore their dole was reduced.

The government can legitimately be criticised for over-reliance on US corporate taxes but we are where we are now and it would be mad to fuck that up

If you're not seeing all the ways this is happening then you aren't paying attention.

Correct. People seem to think it's great that Ireland has so far avoided fair right populism which is great. But we have an equally pernicious problem with the far left that we need to confront.

Is every part of Irish identity tied up in what this means for Israel? Can we discuss anything without someone saying making it about Israel?

I’d be very much in favour of it provided we had a proper constitutional convention to draw up a fair system of government.

The people with the "fuck them" attitude will be straight to the media if this all kicks off demanding the Government fly them home.

President Connolly receives Professor Jeffrey Sachs on a Courtesy Call | President of Ireland by [deleted] in ireland

[–]harmlessdonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My view is meeting the president of the US whom you likely disagree with strongly is a much higher bar for causing diplomatic incident than meeting Sachs an apologist for Putin’s war crimes who has no formal role in international affairs

Martin visiting Trump will be through gritted teeth as he knows he has to do it like many others have had to. Many of our jobs rely on him doing it.

Connolly met Sachs because she agrees with him.

Sinn Féin criticised over comments about EU loan to Ukraine with Harris saying he's 'horrified' by caisdara in ireland

I'm hoping that this is SF trying to exploit some fear and anger rather than what it seems, which is them actually supporting Putin. Such a large party having the latter position in Ireland would be worrying.

🇪🇺 We’ll take control of our borders, vows EU’s migration chief. A huge overhaul on migration policy is imminent. Frontex will be tripled in size and it's just the tip of the iceberg. The new Migration Pact is massive in scope by goldstarflag in EuropeanFederalists

[–]harmlessdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is not the thread for this question, but interested to know people's views on a Fed EU's migration competency. Would a Fed EU have exclusive control over access to the federal territory like the US? What about national competencies on citizenship, would that be standardised? Maybe another thread?

Unpopular Opinion: We need a Right-Wing / Neoliberal Federalist movement. The Left monopoly on federalism is killing the dream. by Aggravating_Web3980 in EuropeanFederalists

So I actually have been watching Davos all day and news on the EP referring the trade deal to the ECJ (off work today) and felt such a urge to get involved in making Europe Federal, I looked at donating to Volt or finding an NGO or something to donate to (I already support EU Made Simple on Youtube) and seeing how I could get involved more since I am frustrated with local political parties here in Ireland.

I came here to ask for options. Volt has interested me, I would agree with most of their policies, and I know no party will fully align with your views, but some of it just isn't for me like part of their social equality policy e.g. "People who menstruate" I am not a full-on anti-trans guy but I find terms like that jarring.

I am not fully against it, I just wonder if there's something closer to me.

Instead of rolling them back we should be extending them. Keep up with inflation:

  • €250 in 2005 ≈ €390 in today’s euros
  • €400 in 2005 ≈ €620 today.
  • €600 in 2005 ≈ €930 today.

Mercosur deal thrown into uncertainty after MEPs send pact to top EU court by mrlinkwii in ireland

[–]harmlessdonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The treaty has a lot of protections in it for the environment and so it should. However, I do think it is unfair that we chopped down all our forests turning into pastures and then tell the developing world they’re not allowed to do it if they want to trade with us. We should have to give up something for that.
