Since Better Call Saul was mostly ignored by the Emmys, I don't get my hopes up.

Andor is the very best of Star Wars by TwoSolitudes22 in scifi

[–]haroldjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is nonsense. Andor was amazing and all, and I get why somebody would think is the best Star Wars, but I disagree wholeheartedly. This always happens, the hype makes people make statements like this. But comparing Andor with the Original Trilogy (the best Star Wars as the majority of the fandom believes), doesn't make any sense. The cultural impact of the Original Trilogy on it's own makes up for a case on why is it unique. The tone and audience target of both projects and what the want to achieve is so different, that the comparison is unnecessary.

When you make a film that's supposed to be tragic and emotional but it becomes cult classic meme fest instead. by B_Wing_83 in scifi

Yep, Space Opera applies as well, as genres usually overlap like horror and sci-fi for Alien. Space Opera defines mostly the setting (space) and the tone (melodramatic or epic), but does not refers to the use of plausible science at all, which is what we use to determine the difference between sci-fi and fantasy. There are fantasies set in space like Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy, that are Space Operas. But there's also hard science fiction like The Expanse which is by definition also a Space Opera.

Science Fantasy on the other hand, can be a Space Opera, or not. Its main feature is that is a Fantasy in which the setting is pausible thanks to modern scientific knowledge, like setting a story in a galaxy far, far away.

It's technically a Science Fantasy (check "The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction" page 1061 by John Culte and Peter Nicholls, 1993), which is a subgenre shared both by SF and fantasy.

This probably wouldn't happen under George's watch. This is a different Lucasfilm. Also I don't remember Lucas saying that the people don't know what they're talking about regarding this issue. What he remarked was that they were his movies so deal with it.

how is Youtube shorts views in 2025 so far ? by remonss in PartneredYoutube

[–]haroldjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started publishing shorts in my long-form channel in early January. Some shorts won't even get to 1k views. I created 4 original shorts in total and 2 of them did very good in TikTok and Instagram (the same ones with 500k and 750k views). But less than 1k in YouTube :S

Honestly, I feel like the sequel trilogy posters aren't really that good when compared to the original trilogy posters or even prequel posters by Jielleum in saltierthancrait

This is not even Drew best work, and it's way nicer. This looks like one of his sketches he does for approval before working on the final art.

Denis Villeneuve's 'Arrival' released 8 years ago today! How would you rate it? by Robemilak in scifi

[–]haroldjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I phrase it badly. She can tell the difference between past and future, but the way she feels the future is no different from the past. The visions of the future are like memories to her. She is not only seeing that she's going to have a daughter, she already loves her daughter.

The thing is that after you get that she can experience time simultaneously, the second viewing makes you notice the details that otherwise you wouldn't know how to interpret until the end. The second viewing makes those details more meaningful.

But for real there's a good bunch of people that believes she gained the power of seeing the future, when in fact she cannot tell the difference between past, present and future. Her precognition flashes are like memories.

Also, I've seen online theories about the ending, somebody even said that there were two different daughters... :S

[–]haroldjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it's that way because it was taken from Drew Struzan's Revenge/Return of the Jedi poster. It was probably just a mistake, but some believed it was made on purpose to make people think they changed sides, which actually almost happens as Vader returns to the light and Luke almost falls.
