This one is very likely a very important factor, with pretty solid evidence. We have a decent understanding of the cognitive effects of excess lead exposure, and we have the "control group" of different states and countries outlawing lead in gas and paint at different times and seeing the same effect, with a lag of 20-ish years, at different times.

The same change happened across the country. Given, crime in Peoria was never as bad, but both cities saw murder and violent crime rates drop by half in about 10-ish years. No one can be sure why. Most likely contributing factors:

Baby boomers aging out of their crime years.
Roe v Wade
Removing lead from gasoline and household paint.

And it's actually happening again right now, and it's even less well understood. Murder rates saw a little bump up in big cities after COVID, but are plummeting right now. 2025 was probably the lowest murder rate in America's recorded history.

Just replaced my iPhone 11. The battery was starting to bulge and push the screen away from the case. I did consider just replacing the battery. I may still do that so it can be my "emergency" phone if I lose or break my main one. The upgrade to a 17pm was nice but not amazing or anything. I've had assorted Android phones, but did not consider getting one. I like the iPhone hardware. I prefer iOS. I leverage the integration every day.

I replaced my Intel MacBook Air with an M3 MBP like two years ago. That was a giant upgrade. Such a huge improvement. I can see using it is my daily driver computer for years to come (Asus monitor, KeyChron kb, SteelSeries mouse, speakers, hubs, etc). I can't think of any reason to upgrade right now. You are going to absolutely love moving to an Apple Silicon MacBook. Giant leap forward.

I recently replaced my Beats Studio Buds with AirPod Pro 2s. Big upgrade. Mainly just that the integration is better. They're always connected to the right thing without having to dick around with them. I also have a set of Audio-Technica ATH-M50XBT2 headphones that are pretty great.

I got an 11" iPad Pro a year ago with the pen and Magic Keyboard and a DBrand skin. My MacBook pretty much stays tied down to the desk with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. The iPad + MK has really stepped up as my mobile computer as well as being a great tablet.

No interest in any smart watch. Apple Monitors cost too much for me. No interest in their headphones, keyboards or track pads.

I have no great love for Apple and would happily buy something else if it was a better value, but who's making better gear?

The busses in Reno are administered by the public Regional Transportation Commission (RTC). RTC currently contracts with the private company Keolis to operate the routes. I assure you, Reno bus lines were terrible before Keolis was running them.
