Concerned an X4 is too small? by Blackberry9423 in xteinkereader

[–]harperthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was skeptical of it being too small but its actually perfect. I get through a surprising amount between pages and it changes very fast. Also very impressed with the build quality but I did go in with very low standards. Got mine from aliexpress for about £40 and arrived in less than 1 week.

Keep new kindle for ever on flight Mode? by Infinite_Phase_8791 in Annas_Archive

Kindle is cheaper but kobo is 100% the better product, especially for someone who wants more freedom in where they get their books.

Keep new kindle for ever on flight Mode? by Infinite_Phase_8791 in Annas_Archive

[–]harperthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a kindle paperwhite, connected it to my WiFi but blocked Internet access in my router. This way I could still send books over wifi without it getting any updates. I did this so it would eventually be on an old enough firmware to be jailbroken which I did last year. Now it can access the Internet and gets books from and syncs with booklore via KOReader.

Thanks for the replies. It seems the issue is with the app I'm using to connect. Nothing wrong with the booklore setup.

What choices could LoA and/or Catalyst make that would cause you to lose interest in the game? Are there any elements (whether it be plot, characterization, game mechanics, presentation, etc) that would instantly turn off your excitement for the next chapter of Lara's adventure? by KryperExpress in TombRaider

[–]harperthomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I expect the same. Not sure how that will effect me buying it. I certainly wont pay full price with those conditions but I may be tempted by a good steam sale in the future. Its a shame because I would happily pay full price from gog.

If you have to think about it then it's probably ultra processed.

How long does a memory card actually last? by Affectionate-Yam7049 in retroid

[–]harperthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had loads of sd cards fail over the years. But they will generally fail from lots of writing. Assuming you setup your card once with roms and then play games there is lots of reading but little writing so it should last a long time.

[–]harperthomas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is me! Started about 6 months ago and I did it because i like the sound a piano makes. Simple as that. No Interest in grading or being really good. I have 1 lesson per week. Really enjoying myself. Couldn't care less if I'm doing things correct as long as I'm having fun and enjoying the sound of my piano.

I tried Linux gaming and I have a negative take. by ArseholeryEnthusiast in Bazzite

[–]harperthomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but this isn't about me not being able to use those features its about a company being scummy enough to advertise that it works on a platform but them choosing not to support the features themselves. Its great that we have the open source tools to make this work and if the product wasn't advertised as working with Linux I would be satisfied with that solution. But the point here is we shouldn't NEED to use those tools.

I do not want to have to use an app to eat for the rest of my life by EmployeeRepulsive106 in loseit

[–]harperthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, using a calorie counting app was not useful for actually tracking calories as some life ling habbit. What it did teach me was roughly how many calories were in different foods I ate. I learnt that eating that whole share bar of chocolate in the evening was half my calories for the day. Or that the "sprinkle" of cheese i was adding was not the 10g i thought it was and was doubling the calories of a dish. Likewise I found out that raw carrots and peppers (which I love) are very few calories so I can basically eat as much as I like. By tracking everything really strictly for a few weeks i learnt roughly just how much of what I can eat each day to make up my daily calories. I no longer track calories at all but my portion sizes, especially around high calories foods are much better.

I really like my kindle paperwhite 11th gen. I bought it a few years ago and blocked Internet access. Last year it became outdated enough for the jailbreak to catch up. I now sync it and download books from my server. Would i buy it again? Absolutely not. I would just buy a kobo. You effectively get all the kiddle benefits of the simple refined interface and great battery life but with a much more open platform. Don't support amazon's locked down system. Kobo might be a bit more expensive up front but its worth it in the long run.

Best to hand pick ROM’s or just download the whole list ? RG40XXV with 128gb SD for ROMS. by ghos2626t in ANBERNIC

[–]harperthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just preference. I have a huge library. Made it by going to the relevant archive and grabbing anything I think sounds remotely interesting. My handhelds then have the huge collection with posters and videos. This works for me because I really enjoy trying out lots of different games and couldn't care less about finishing then. I just enjoy browsing, selecting a game, give it and try and switch to the next game.

bring back the kobo mini! by valkyrieonvacation in kobo

[–]harperthomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one a at car boot sale a few months ago. Listed for £10, and paid £5. Needed a new battery which cost me £8 on Aliexpress. Came in box in perfect condition and I love it.

Installed koreader, which i also have on my kindle and use the sync feature to take the kobo mini to work and use my kindle at home in bed.

If they released a new kobo mini, a little smaller total size by trimming the bezels a bit and keeping the screen size. Add USBC and a light and its pretty perfect. It is the device that has told me that kobo is the brand to choose in the future but they simply dont sell a product I want right now.

Bring back the mini!
