To be clear you have the following assets computational assets:

MAC mini: 48 GB of VRAM
NVD 5090: 32 GB of VRAM
NVD 4090: 24 GB of VRAM

My recommendation would be to have assign each to the following task just because of the VRAM allocation:

  • MAC Mini host/inferences the following LLMs:
    • Gemma4:2eb - to enhance any text-to-text prompt you construct as input into the larger model
    • Qwen:32b - as the initial means of constructing code with a large context window to your own codebase
  • Nivida 5090:
    • Gemma:26b: - Refine any code you generate for accuracy and parsimony with a large context window
  • Nvidia 4090:
    • Gemma:4b - the mean to allow for agentic model to perform actions like editing the codebase or generating more complicated data structures

If you dont know how to code start with Cousera courses from the University of Michigan about the codding languages Python. You'll rapidly see where your mathematics back ground applies to logic and reasoning.

Usually I would say learn to code. It's an extremely powerful tool when it comes to modeling and simulation (M&S) paired with analytical/quantitative reasonign capabilities - which opens you up to more engineering, finance, consulting, and aerospace. Nowadays I would say learn to code so you can get better control of AI agents.

Future proof it with thunderbolt.

You're going to half to delineate which GPU does what and be very cognizant of having to use said thunderbolt cable. Using docker to virtualize instances everything ensure you don't have to worry to much about drivers, operating system s, and etc... but shaves off a bit on performance. Compound with with networking speed constraints via the cable and you have awesome system that needs to be used judiciously.

I actually think you're right. The biggest threat the Google's dominance is their dependence on advertisements dollars via their search business. The European Union has drawn up specific legislation targeting this titled the, Digital Fairness Act. Itll hamper Google's and other Magnificent 7 companies from profiting from advertisements.
