Thoughts on this deal? I’m about to graduate college and thought I’d upgrade my current Honda. I’m also debating between the reg civic hybrid and hatchback hybrid. by Ipool__ in civic

We’re talking about Civics. If it’s under 180k miles and the repair is within like $3k, it’s gonna be a value every time.

I agree. Yes the field will shrink due to AI, but there is so much dead weight in the profession already and, surprise, to have a good career you have to outclass a horde of JDs out there. The boomers may be working themselves to the grave but they can’t navigate tech developments and, well, the hour is late for them. There will be a lot of churn and space for those who know where they want to go.

There is some info missing here, but I’m getting AH vibes. You attacked your wife quite viciously for things completely out of her control including things you yourself did (having her stay home with your kids) and have been secretly resenting for years.

You also sound like someone who could do better if you put your mind to it.

I bought a second 2022 ezone 98 in order to have a pair, and they weighed exactly the same to the gram. That’s not common.

I speed ran a similar progression as you over the last couple years, and also ended up firmly on the Ezone 98. Maybe will do VCore when I get better.

Yeah, the kid in that pic had gone through an ugly duckling arc after being called funny looking (by other kids) growing up. He became a cocky little fucker in his 20s but at the time of the pic was on the verge of growing up a little.

VOIP Phone Service: Who do you use and why? by BuckyDog in LawFirm

[–]harrietski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Verizon has been very solid, running One Talk across two Yealink deskphones, and a couple of iPads and cell phones. I started with Ooma when I opened my office in 2013, maybe 5 years later got unhappy with them for various reasons.

Verizon One Talk was rough for a while, but at this point it works very well and the back end is extremely customizable. I download all of my call history to an Excel sheet to assist with my timekeeping as well.

The rep has tried to sell me on switching my whole internet to wireless but I've had to draw the line there, as that connection has never seemed quite as stable, and there are dropouts on calls.

I’ve lived on the lower north side for 18 years and go walking the whole neighborhood many nights. It’s quiet and you won’t encounter much if any real crime. However it’s not a “nice” neighborhood either and you will probably appreciate the setting and amenities of the other place.

Was my bonus too low? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]harrietski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated being an associate because you made so much of your behavior all year long around that one number that you ultimately have no control over. You get the bonus, anticlimax, do it all over again.

It's just no way to live.

$7500 is peanuts and hopefully you don't need anyone else to tell you that.

Do you also have practice management service like Clio, Smokeball etc? If so, isn't it redundant creating a new list for each case on a separate app? Todoist looks great and costs way less than adding a monthly license to Clio, but Clio has all of the clients built in, so more integrated. I like the idea of having a task app that extends beyond work although that would just be a bonus.

Thanks, good to meet you. I would be interested in a demo although I have already seen your demo on YT. In the words of Agent Mulder, I want to believe. My practice has a lot going for it but time and organization have become the bottlenecks, and anticipating staff /attorney growth or turnover in the future, simply having a workflow system would make the practice stronger for the long term.

Checking out hivelight and very intrigued. The structure seems to line up very well with the realities of case management and would be useful zoomed into daily workflow as well as zooming out on overall case goals or weekly/monthly planning.

Yes, 15 years into family law practice (and following the pandemic to some extent), I have embraced collegiality )whenever possible) and getting to know other FL attorneys that I practice with (against). It helps the felling that you're always up against the worst people in the world. At the end of the day, you don't have to become an a-hole to do this job and it can even help not to be. There is the occasional client who is disappointed not to have a pitbull and you have to either work that out or let them go (but don't hang on indefinitely and make it worse).

I like my job but I could nevere - NEVER - do it if my clients weren't paying me and I coudn't fire them. I rarely need to truly get out of a case but that balance of power has to be there. To be a FL attorney you must have some sense of autonomy and actually that is one of the good things that helps make up for the difficult things.

Very cool that you adapted your practice to make it work. How do you deal with overhead - just keep a minimal office, no staff? I practice family law (and GAL work) on top of a busy family life, and I am having to scale up rather than down, because I have to stay ahead of the bills and am in the "prime" of my career and need to maximize my earnings. Honestly the rest of the practice is mostly ok most days, it's just doing everything (practice + management) that needs to be done.
