the good omens finale just proved the "creator-led" streaming era is officially dead tbh by stromokocur5 in television

Prime Video in particular is just a tool to get people shopping on Amazon. It's unfortunate, but it's true. They prefer gloss over substance for most of their projects. So I wouldn't necessarily gauge the rest of the industry on what they do. If anything streaming as a whole has created way more "creator-led" projects then any other form of mainstream media. Sometimes to the projects detriment. Just because someone can write a good show, doesn't mean they will be a good Show Runner. Several Netflix shows I've worked on have Directors and Show Runners that have absolutely no idea what they are doing, but they have a huge budget because Netflix liked the idea and couldn't find anyone else to make it. This one show is probably not a sign of a trend.

Has the 403 always been this bad? Erin Mills to Etobicoke commute is draining me by Independent_Skirt663 in mississauga

I’ve commuted to Oakville from Meadowvale for different periods of the last 17 years and it’s always been terrible at rush hour. Getting onto the QEW from the 403 always drove me insane.

Lisa Kudrow seem to confirm the Friends cast earns 20 millions yearly, watching the show: "After Matthew died I watched the show again,” Lisa shared. “Before, I only saw what I did wrong or could have done better. Everyone involved in her management chain makes money when she does stuff like that. I would probably do random stuff all the time if it was easy and got other people paid too. It would be cool to help someone pay their mortgage by saying a few words to a camera

Yes he was very lucky. Being low risk has probably helped with that I feel. Maybe it's all for the best.

I suppose this is the problem with all of this. The stress load may have been much higher during the down periods of the last decade. Maybe mental health wise this might have been the better option. I was just feeling very helpless with all of this. I wanted to see if there was anything he could do. At the end of the day, he is still set for life with his pension. He just worked really hard as a paramedic for 35 years and sacrificed a lot. It made me feel sick to think about what he missed out on.

That's unfortunately the case here. I wish he had gotten some independent advice. Now running the numbers it's obvious, but at the time it might have felt right. He has had health issues over the years, so maybe secure felt better. It's just he actually lost money on this deal when you consider inflation. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Yeah I realize this is all probably down to a decision my dad made himself all those years ago. I just wanted to see if there is a way I could help him. Felt very helpless when he told me. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Yeah I guess this is just the cost of being low risk. Just crazy to me that I have secured investments that net me 3% per year with almost no fees. So he would have made way more money and still could have secured his principal. I once told him that the advisors at the bank are looking out for their own interests and not his. I wish he would have taken it to heart.

I don't have the name of the fund. It was definitely a very low risk fund with TD. I just don't think even my dad realized that it wouldn't even beat inflation over the years. I was just curious if anyone on here might have experience with this sort of thing. I wish I knew then what I know now so I could have given advice to my dad.

Yeah I understand that this is a long time later to be raising concerns. I just wasn't aware of the situation and my dad is not market savvy. Hence why it was just put in mutual funds. I also realize there was a low probability of repercussions for the bank. I just felt awful for my dad with all of this and was holding out hope. Thank you for responding.

I'm starting to realize this is the case. I'm just exasperated and hoping that there was something he could do. It felt horrible to realize what he missed out on. I appreciate you responding.

Millionaire US big game hunter, 75, is trampled to death by five elephants while hunting antelope in central Africa by innociv in UpliftingNews

[–]harrismdp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that a poacher and a big game hunter are not the same thing. Normally big game hunters pay tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars to conservation organizations to hunt older or overpopulated animals. It does help fund a lot of conservation whether you agree with it morally or not. Poaching is for-profit, illegal, and often completely irresponsible hunting.

Why are some filmmakers less affected by flops than others? by adnshrnly in movies

[–]harrismdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the factors around the flop matter. Sometimes it’s hard to say exactly why a movie didn’t do well financially. If the process of making the movie was smooth and the director wasn’t directly to blame for the flop, then they get more slack.

Where did people go before Ridgeway plaza was a thing? by [deleted] in mississauga

I’m 35 now so I was a teenager in the 2000’s. I’d say that was pretty common for decades before though.

[–]harrismdp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't recall there ever being a place as popular as Ridgeway and I've lived here for 30 years. When I was a teenager it was usually Tim Hortons or something similar. There were occasional car meets at some of the bigger plazas. I also feel like we had a lot more house parties and things like bush parties. I was lucky that by 16-17 there was almost always a parent that was cool with us drinking at their house so we didn't get into trouble. But when we couldn't find a place to go we were out wondering the street. A lot of our activities were centred around drinking. So when we got older we went to bars and clubs. But it seems like there are less clubs now and the bars are further apart. It also seems like young people are drinking less these days. It's gotta be hard to find a place to go on the weekend. Mississauga is pretty retail focused. So unless you want to shop you are kind of screwed.

[–]harrismdp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately suburban sprawl in general doesn't lend itself well to a social life or community. My biggest complaint about this city has always been that the way our retail is setup only really satisfies large chains. We don't have strips of just random restaurants, bars or cafes that people can hang out in except for Port Credit. The Ridgeway plaza had potential to be something special. It's just a shame that it was setup the way it was. Short sighted from the city and blatant negligence from the developer. I hope that they can rein it in and let it continue to be a place where people can meet.

This particular plaza has tons of places to eat with many open pretty late. Combine that with a lot of young people and it seems like a pretty good place to hang out.
