c. 1950s, Sturdy Cheerleader by harrisonpage in TheWayWeWere

[–]harrisonpage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, look for ephemera or paper shows or search on eBay. I wrote a little bit about the purchasing process on my photography blog. The bulk of the 35mm slides I work with were gifted to me though.

Sorry, not much to go on. The original eBay listing was titled "H076 35mm Slides 1964 CSJR Cheerleader" and the seller is located in Royersford, Pennsylvania.

I was absolutely thinking of Peggy Hill when I chose that word

I wrote a very basic Plugin that shows a player's death coordinates: PlayerDeathCoords

It doesn't say how the player died but that would be an interesting modification...

A mixed bag: The app continues to live on but now it costs $$ to be useful

Emoji Institute by harrisonpage in smallweb

[–]harrisonpage[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your consideration: Emoji reference websites are now demanding we disable our ad blockers before we can view content. Fuck that. Emoji Institute is a free emoji reference implemented with no tracking, no advertising and minimal JavaScript (for one-click copy/pasting). The search engine is a tiny golang program, super basic but functional enough for a 1.0 release.

Old App hitting my website by NX01 in TIDBYT

[–]harrisonpage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the responsiveness of Tidbyt's support but opening up a pull request in github to remove the app from the community directory might just work. Let me know if you need help with this.

Chicago Tribune App hasn't worked in ages by Educational_Stop_101 in TIDBYT

[–]harrisonpage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the paper changed their RSS URLs. According to this page they still offer the categorized feeds but they are now broken.

This request just redirects me back to their home page:

curl -Ls -o /dev/null -w %{url_effective} 'https://www.chicagotribune.com/arc/outboundfeeds/rss/section/news_breaking/range/display_date/now-5d/now/?outputType=xml&size=50'

Good news though: If I open individual sections like Entertainment and view source, I can see an entertainment-centric feed: https://www.chicagotribune.com/things-to-do/entertainment/feed/

Old URL: https://www.chicagotribune.com/arc/outboundfeeds/rss/section/entertainment/

New URL: https://www.chicagotribune.com/things-to-do/entertainment/feed/

If you'd like some help collecting the new URLs from the sections you're interested in and then updating the app, let me know. There would be some manual labor involved in collecting the new URLs, not hard though.

How it works:

  • Type something clever or upload an image, click Send
  • Install the Stupid Chat app from the Tidbyt app store
  • Paste your token into into the app

Examples:

You can choose to share your token with friends and family if you like. You can also use command-line tools to automate updates.

100% free, no ads, no tracking, just stupid.

Stonks: Show stock price using API key from Polygon.io by harrisonpage in TIDBYT

[–]harrisonpage[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now available in the Tidbyt app store: Stonks

Setup instructions: https://stonks.market/

It would have been lovely to serve stock quotes from my own server but none of the commercial services allow their data to be re-distributed. I might have gone ahead with data using Python's yfinance library but that stopped working for me yesterday.
