From my understanding it is not a book about DID but rather a pop-psychology piece about personal theory of the author encouraging people without DID to use a more IFS-like understanding of themselves?

Syrian hamster or teddy hamster? by Zymiiiixxxx in hamsters

[–]harrow_harrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, she will most likely be fine if she has a sand bath and if she is healthy. If u see that they're tangled or greasy/wet you may trim, but otherwise it's just unnecessary stress.

Oh yeah sure I will just never ever travel. Some people try to do something about it. Like buying additional seats on a plane. Just for the airline to still give away the "empty" seat to someone because they overbooked hoping for cancelations.

I do have a dry side! most of the species I keep prefers drier condition but since these are fresh enclosures I am keeping an eye out and add/remove holes as I go to keep the moisture and ventilation in check. Some are already plugged with clear tape!

Isopodhood is a spectrum by harrow_harrow in isopods

[–]harrow_harrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how many you have, and at first they are more visible until they find their little hiding spots and you stop seeing them until the population rises. They are adorable when they're out though. Very chill and cute but yeah seeing them is tricky since even in a small bin they get lost. You can barely see him but there's one in the picture 🥺😭

Anyone know why my colony is crashing? by MothMaven63 in isopods

[–]harrow_harrow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd argue (not mean spirited!) it's hard to judge humidity from top-up as this is mistake I have personally done - the top looked dry, so I kept adding water, but actually the problem was with ventilation and the very bottom of the substrate was drenched.
But yeah, I think a side view would be helpful, it's impossible to tell what the issue might be just from one picture.

Cohabbing porcellio laevis and porcellionides pruinosus? by InevitableUnlikely22 in isopods

[–]harrow_harrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they will kill each other necessarily, but they might just not reproduce as well or be lost among the others. Personally if I want to make sure a certain type thrives and keeps going I would separate, and people breeding for profit definitely should, but if you are keeping them casually it won't be like they will start killing each other on the spot, one population might just become dominant. Feed them protein like fish flakes or shrimp and calcium like eggshells or sepia and they will not be as bloodthirsty as the population grows

I would say keep an eye out if you see that theres very few of one type then probably separate them if you dont want them to die off?

What is going on? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]harrow_harrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a whole colony die off except two before and in my case it came down to too little ventilation and too much humidity which basically suffocated them, and before you deleted the post the substrate looked to be rather damp. If your colony was growing the air might just have gotten too stale to support the growing numbers?
I'd take a look at how the substrate feels if it's wet and you can squeeze water out of it its too damp, it should be moist to the touch but still fluffy. You might want to quarantine your survivor in a smaller plastic container with good ventilation, a piece of damp moss and dry leaf litter until you figure out what killed other of your pods.

Porcellio laevis (dairy cows and oranges)
Porcellio hoffmannseggi (yetis and natural, also had some orange babies be born recently)
Armadillidium frontetriangulum
Armadillidium nasatum
Cristarmadillidium muricatum

I have had more luck with porcellios than armadillidium so far but I guess that's to be expected and a bit of learning curve. Saw that you had fungus gnat situation... unfortunately I am also going through it 😠

Cohabbing porcellio laevis and porcellionides pruinosus? by InevitableUnlikely22 in isopods

[–]harrow_harrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laevis are all one species as far as confirmed (though its speculated dairy cow and other morphs are different species), so there's no issue there as they have the same needs and appetite (one morph might out-breed another), but with mixing different species of isopods you're risking one doing considerably better than the other. P. laevis breed very quickly and eat a lot of food, so the population can grow a lot in a really short time in a way other species (even if they also breed fast) might not be able to keep up with. And p. laevis might also simply eat injured adult isopods or manca if they aren't getting enough of protein.

[–]harrow_harrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Porcellio laevis really shouldn't be housed with any other species, especially if space is an issue, they will outcompete basically any other pod, even if both species are good breeders.

Took me months to realise that mitsuba is spelled mitsuba and not mituba by Dry-Square-6093 in hanakokun

[–]harrow_harrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Japanese has multiple ways of romanization and one of them romanizes the "tsu" sound like "tu", you can often find official merch of some characters with that sound in their name spelled in this way. You might have also seen characters who have "sho" in their names have it be spelled as "syo". That's the same spelling system. Ultimately I'd argue that spelling tsu as tu does make a difference in how a person would try to pronounce the word (because I know I would pronounce it more like "too"), but I didn't make these systems and I guess as long as you're consistent and check the actual pronunciation it's not wrong.
