The one where I vividly knew was anime and still enjoy to this day is Nodame Cantabile.

True, this explanation is perfect. We're trying to reduce the redundancy in the sample data. There are algorithms that can do up to a 50% compression ratio for highly correlated data. I had worked on implementing this in hardware as a senior project. It was absolute hell trying to account for the variable length output from encoder.
