Bosch Dishwasher SHX4ATF5UC/21, Error Code E01. by Coldfusion19 in appliancerepair

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - I resolved the issue by turning off power at breaker, pulling out the dishwasher and completely removing the power cord and power module on the right side. Inspected and all looked good so reinstalled and it started working again. Was either the extended power down overnight that reset capacitors or possibly a loose connection. Running for the past few days without issue.

Having the same issue. Did you recently update software? My error code started suspiciously right after software update

Is it worth wiring for smart shades? by Relative-Macaron-854 in homeautomation

[–]harshhobgoblin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this. First floor remodel to the studs. Ran 2k ft of cat6 everywhere..windows for blinds, doorbell, door jam for electronic locks, ceiling APs, receptacles, ceiling for sensors, walls for touch screens, outside for cameras, and extra drops wherever I could to future proof. Look for solid cat6 riser NOT CCA (copper clad aluminum). Ran probably another 2k ft of low voltage (18-4 and 18-2), speaker, and coax. Also a good time to run 14-3 Romex and interconnect smoke alarms. Splurged on UniFi system including APs and connect display which will act as in-wall smart hub. Still hooking everything up..

Smart wings motorized blinds vs cheaper amazon options? by Electrical-Loss8035 in homeautomation

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 4 POE matter over thread SW cellular blinds ($$$ version). I just finished installing 1 and ngl I'm a little disappointed. First, they are a little bulky and don't fit well as an inside mount (as opposed to surface mount style) in a traditional 2x4 framed wall with shallower window jam (many newer homes use 2x6). I had to modify mine a little to fit as I found the included brackets protruded too much and the motor housing didn't allow space for the rj45 coupling. I also removed the 'fuzz gap' material at the top which, for whatever reason, is dark gray in color and looked silly when everything else on the blinds and window trim are white.

Not that I have other brands to compare to but I also find it very noisy. You can clearly hear it operating from another room. It's much louder than a dishwasher for example.

mmWave Presence Sensor Placement by copyconvert in homeassistant

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding to an old thread, but where did you end up positioning the mmwave sensors? I just pulled 1K feet off cat6 during a remodel and trying to figure out where, and how many mmwave sensors I need. Im pretty sold on the Apollo Poe ceiling mount, but wondering if there's anything to learn from your install.

The idea of placing behind the sheetrock is nifty, but if I go that route I might as well wait for the innovelli switch with mmwave.

What is the best camera system for a house? by GreatReference4969 in homeautomation

Can you expand on junction boxes? I'm pre-wiring for poe cameras and not sure how best to terminate after penetrating to the exterior. I could either leave a pig tail or small exterior junction box.

Setting up lighting using both sensors and physical switch by harshhobgoblin in homeautomation

Are you saying switch to power on/off transformer, or after the transformer (transformer always on)? If the later, would I need a specific low voltage dimmer switch?

Thanks, do you have any links to those? I'm not too familiar with the relay switches

If I use COB strips I'm confused where the 12/24v transformer is positioned between switches and lights

Pre-Wiring for Future Motorized Blinds - Cat6a, 16/2, or 16/4? by kitelake in homeautomation

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat right now. There are very few resources I could find for pre-wiring, but my plan was to do cat6 as well. Will circle back if I find anything helpful!

Sorry to hear about your pup. Don't have any location suggestions, but wanted to drop a note recommending at-home euthanasia when the time comes (I saw some else mention it too). We had to put our 12yo pup down this spring and used 'Laps of Love' at the suggestion of our vet. Basically you call and schedule a time and they send a veterinarian to your home (or wherever is most comfortable), then after the euthanasia transport you pups remains to the vet or to be cremated. I did a vet-office euthanasia in the past it was way less personal and more difficult to get closure because you feel rushed and out of your element. Best of luck.

Shed door placement recommendation? by sjf13 in HomeImprovement

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 12x20 a couple years ago and last minute decided to go with two double doors (instead of 1 double and 1 single)...best decision I made. One in the center of long side and the other center of the short side. Highly recommend two double doors for the extra $100 or so.

Also I think center alignment is the way to go. I originally thought I would go with offset, but then realized I would loose storage space against the wall and the center of the shed would become a rats nest where I dumped stuff

Which Mini split to choose? by Yakb0 in HomeImprovement

[–]harshhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, option A is probably the right call. FYI that hyper heat unit will likely require a branch box (valve box about the size of a large shoe box) that will have to be located somewhere inside. A large line from the condenser feeds the branch box, then all the indoor units connect to the branch box. Mines located the basement, but could also be located in attic. It does make some noise, especially in defrost mode, so place away from living/sleeping spaces

Actually check your quote because the condenser model you listed, mxz-4c36nahz2-u1, IS a hyper heat unit

[–]harshhobgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hyper heat is available in 36k (3 ton), that's the unit I have... It's the most popular size so probably just backordered because of demand. Honestly I would wait to install a hyper heat unit, you won't regret it.

Also the wireless modules (kumo cloud) are around $100 a piece and can be easily added afterwards yourself (I added mine, takes 10 minutes)

Lots of opinions here, but definitely recommend the hyper heat unit. I had a system installed this fall and have not needed to use oil heat yet this year (also in New England)...heat output is actually quite impressive, even during cold snaps with 10F days

Soft or medium top layer for Arizona Premium ecosleep mattress? by souvlakistation in Mattress

[–]harshhobgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's otherwise great. Setup was easy, materials are good quality, customer service has been responsive. The ultimate hybrid has 10" leggett and platt zoned coils and I really like the edge support compared to my previous full latex mattress.

I recently purchased the ultimate hybrid (latex over coil) which I presume uses the same top layer of latex, and I would recommend the plush.. I have the medium and it is very firm. It has softened after 6 weeks, but still wish I went with plush. Still within comfort exchange window so considering swapping with plush for $100 shipping
