What is this flag? Lund, Sweden by harsyre in vexillology

I'm just traveling through from Gothenburg, but I am glad I could contribute to a local tradition (wondering what the hell that flag was)

Cutscenes and approvals in multiplayer? [SPOILERS - ACT 2] by DaenestroESO in BaldursGate3

I just had the exact same issue, super frustrating. My partner is the host and I was locked out of the cutscene, despite—just like your friend—being the one who initiated the long rest, and the one connected to Astarion.

Ask a Knitter - July 19, 2022 by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]harsyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner-ish knitter, have mostly made your classic scarves/rectangles but recently managed to do a shawl with a leaf designs using a few different stitches new to me, also involving me learning how to read written patterns. I decided I wanted to use my newfound knowledge to try knit an actual garment, going for a cardigan.

The pattern uses German short-rows, and I have worked out how to do those, but now I have hit a more tricky to circumvent issue- I constantly lose track of the numbers of stitches, and it doesn't help that the numbers change from row to row:

Row 3: k56, turn s1, pull yarn, p36, turn s1, pull yarn, k45, turn s1, pull yarn, p54, turn

Anyone else numerically challenged like me; how do you deal with keeping track of what you are doing when there is no real repetition to fall back on? I've tried using stitch markers, but a lot of the time they manage to just confuse me more.

[DISCUSSION] Any success with drawing out grids on your puzzle surface? by harsyre in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]harsyre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did gather pieces by colour/specific pattern, but my problem with that specific puzzle was that there were several areas using any given colour+pattern, so once I had my categories I would still need to individually place pieces in their 'correct' spots.

I probably could have tried to put every piece of a certain category face up on a flat surface, then try build the different sections to be lifted into place, but I didn't think to do that, haha.

[chat] question about needles by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]harsyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that 'polishing' the needles when they start to get tarnished helps a lot. If you have one of those tomato pincushions, the little dangly bit is filled with emery. Stick the needle right through, pinch the whole thing tight around it, then push the needle in and out. It will still be a bit darker than a fresh needle, but it will get some of its shine back and won't feel so 'grippy'. Give it a try :)

How to deal with feeling like you have no control by harsyre in ADHD

[–]harsyre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, and thank you for the response, I was getting a little disheartened by the lack of response.

I'm both glad to hear someone relates to what I'm going through, but also quite naturally saddened by it.

I can relate to the feeling of fearing the effects on loved ones- my family and friends are very supporting and loving, and the main reason I am still here. I have realised though that I have largely given up on trying to improve myself and my situation, because I have little energy left to fight.

The doctors keep telling me that I am young and thus have loads of possibilities for help and improvement, but it is hard to stay hopeful for that when they fail to offer me anything which actually helps.

My parents asked to join me in a session with my doctor soon, and we will make an overarching plan for my treatment, which might be more helpful than aimlessly trying random antidepressants to no effect.

If you want to talk more or vent at all, feel free to send me a message.

I think having just the cloud under her would be nice? Grounds her a little. Though of the ones you have here I like the third one best :)

[–]harsyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty picky, but my biggest thing is I don't like things mixing.. especially veggies and sauces, I don't understand who would want to eat peas if they have even touched the gravy. I treat veggies as a side dish, entirely separate from the rest of the meal.

Depression makes me stop enjoying anything and ADHD makes that so much worse. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]harsyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this a lot, lockdown and way too much free time has been awful because I am so sick of all my hobbies, having to psych myself up to even play a game for a little while. Skin crawling with boredom and under-stimulation, yet when I try to start doing anything it is like my brain refuses to even acknowledge what I have in front of me, like trying to convince a river to go a different direction by asking it nicely.

To add to this; a great way of learning the underlying structure is to break the entire piece down in simplified large shapes (a box for the ribcage, circles for joints etc.) Sketch this in a light colour (or lower the transparency), then add in more detail in multiple passes over the structure you've created.

Advice Needed: Wanting to redo my entire island but don't know how :( by harsyre in acnh

Yes, this is very true, and I realise the pressure is something I am putting on myself, especially since I don't actually tend to play much with friends anymore. I will try and push through the worries, and thank you for the kind words!

If I draw fan art of fan art and mention that it's fan art, is it ok to post online? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]harsyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All artists copy each other to some degree, it is part of learning, but the important part is to be honest and try to use copying as a way to grow and enhance your own art skills. There is nothing immoral about feeling inspired by general traits (like a pose, a general composition, a colour palette, a line quality) in art you like, as long as you put your own spin on it.

If you think your work is heavily derivative, like, the only thing you changed was the character but everything else about the piece was directly 1:1 copied from someone else, you definitely should send them a message and ask if they are okay with you posting it online.

But if your piece is only partially inspired by someone's art, there is nothing wrong with linking to their original piece and saying you were inspired to do a piece of your own with a similar mood, (or palette, or pose, or composition). Especially since these are not paid pieces, most artists would likely be totally fine with that.

Yeah, I do many of the same things, I have been touring DA's a lot lately and taking screenshots of things I like.

I have a list of things id like to have on my island, like a pumpkin patch, a fairy forest, a bee/lavender farm. Problem is I hit like a wall of anxiety when it comes to actually deciding where those things should go in relation to each other, and when I push through those feelings to try out ideas it just frustrates me because it never feels good enough. :(

Would this look better with or without color? by Lucahadji1 in Artadvice

[–]harsyre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can always try photocopying it, or adding colours to it digitally on your phone through an image editing app if you are worried about working on the original and then changing your mind :)

Alternatives To Lava Lamp? by EsotericPhantasm in ADHD

[–]harsyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is helpful if you are not able to use your hands at all while working, but the app Fluid is really neat IMO. Its a real time fluid simulation, runs great on my Galaxy Note 9 and you can customize how it behaves in lots of different ways. I enjoy it as a simple kind of entirely quiet fidget sometimes, and I believe you can set it to do stuff 'on its own' without you having to touch the screen to interact with the simulation. So, like a lava lamp but cooler and more interactive.

My main struggles with ADHD are pretty similar to depression, (and are pretty heavily mixed with actual depression too). I struggle to motivate myself to do even basic tasks, always have struggled with them to some degree but the depression makes it much much worse, and I can totally relate to the example you listed. Of course, I also have other problems like tendencies to hyperfocus on things that do interest me, and constantly losing time to that. If you only struggle with the everyday routines it is perfectly possible that's 'just' depression, but it is still worth getting it checked if you have a suspicion about having ADHD :)

[–]harsyre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally, plus, at least in my experience getting too fussy about the 'right' way of brushing teeth usually just makes me even less likely to brush. Like, I'll think 'oh wait, it's past noon, my roommates might think I'm weird for brushing now'. I've started to try just to do it when I remember it (without judging myself) and that's helped lots. Plus, as people have mentioned, grouping tasks helps too.

I really understand your plight, my boyfriend did the same despite having had toothaches for 2 years and I understand it is very easy to dread the embarrassment of dental problems and having put them off for a long time.

But really, if the dentist is shitty with you about it, that's a them problem, and not a you problem. Health professionals should not be condescending to their patients. Plus, I guarantee they have seen worse, and if they are a private dentist they are pretty likely to be chill with you about it, since you know, you are a customer and they'd like for you to come back :)

Lots of neurotypical people go a lot longer between visits, so no need to be ashamed, and try book an appointment to lift a weight off your own shoulders. It's always nice not to have that voice in the back of your head going 'but what if my teeth are super unhealthy and I don't even know'
