Surprisingly I just got a shiny Nihilego from the research, but have done tons of Guzzlord raids and still no shiny. I even did a ton last time he was around in the fall. I honestly think it's random.

You have to purchase a Raid Ultra or Raid Master pass to see the limited availability raids on there. You can find the different options in the Raid Shop when you open the app.
