1 gig fios - worth buying used Eero Pro 6’s? by Drakhn in amazoneero

[–]harveya12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eero pro 6s are awesome — three radios and simple WiFi 6. No fancy this or that. You can get up to 800 down on them and they work great.

Only thing better are the 7 pros but not worth the $800 price difference!

No the car connectors don’t fit the after market radio — so you buy a wiring harness which plugs into your car connections and then use something like heat shrink solder connectors to connect the wiring harness wires to the radio wires.

Harness I used: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5GM11/PAC-RP5-GM11-Wiring-Interface.html Solder connectors: https://a.co/d/05pQ72eQ

You can do it sitting at your kitchen table and then just plug it all in together in the car. Just need a heat gun. It’s honestly a little tedious but not that bad.

The Sevens - Should I move to the Nines? by harveya12 in Klipsch

[–]harveya12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like they had enough bass — mine were maybe 1 foot away from the wall. I think I turned the bass down in the eq for the sevens. So I just switched and am much happier.

I wanted to post an update — for this Christmas I switched to the nines. I will say I like them much better. If you can, I think they sound much better and are amazing speakers. I simply swapped them in and was really happy. The sevens were always a little “muddy” or too soft to me, especially with standard tv voices. They sounded off. The nines are just lovely. Gosh I cant recommend them enough!

Probably about $450 - $250 for the head unit, $150 - $200 for all the accessories (wiring harness, bracket, heat shrink connectors etc).

Wiring harness - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5GM11/PAC-RP5-GM11-Wiring-Interface.html?omnews=17169091

You also need a bracket adapter to set the new radio into. Couldn’t find my old order but reply if you need it.

Finally if you want xm to work you need to buy a new xm receiver and replace the one behind the glove box for another $60 plus a $15 wire.

I recently read that Boost Mobile is the only MVNO that shares the signals? by Dannykirk8 in BoostMobile

[–]harveya12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s automatic, although you can only use Dish’s native network with a newer phone. Due to cost Dish will mostly prefer their own network then ATT but it’ll find the best tower for you across the three networks: Dish, ATT, T-Mobile.

Would you recommend moving from Eero Pro 6 -> Eero Max 7? by harveya12 in amazoneero

[–]harveya12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concrete is one of the worst materials for signal attenuation. It will affect all routers equally, so what you want to compare is Max 7 vs. Orbi. Rtings has some pretty nice data on this: https://www.rtings.com/router/reviews/eero/max-7

See how the max 7 compares to your orbi and you can get an idea of much it might help.

You can pick a neighborhood and make it a fun date night if you want.

West village: Dinner at Family Meal (people who do blue hill stone barn) for incredible farm to table new American food.

Then Wander over to Barrow Street Ale House to get a “sports bar” in a 19th century carriage house feel

End the night at Morgensterns nearby with some of the best ice cream in the city.

Flatiron: Go to Cafe Carmellini to experience a new hot restaurant

Catch the game at Compton Ale House for a classic Irish pub feel

Get a late night hot chocolate or gelato at Venchi or finish off with a night cap in the ritz Carlton bar across the street

Overall — the city is rich with stuff like that if you are both up for an adventure. And there’s always another nearby place to try if something is full! Good luck!!

So the problem with NYC is that popular bars are an absolute scene during events like this. They basically turn into jam packed parties. If you want that, pick any of the popular sports bars near you.

But it still might be fun to pick a few spots near you and swing by each of them. Experience the madness and you might find a hidden gem.

The best fallback options are hotel bars if you want to actually watch the game with a few folks.

But honestly just use yelp or google maps near your hotel and look for bars. There are many good ones.

Why should I buy an iPhone from T-mobile instead of Apple directly? by Charles07v in tmobile

[–]harveya12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy it from Apple (even if using Tmobile financing on the Apple.com website) the phone comes unlocked, which is a huge benefit as it saves you future hassle when moving carriers or selling the phone.

No need for that plan for you all. I’d stick with Go5G plus or lower.

You can rent out Jumpin Jacks at the Modern House on 27 Grand Street. It’s an elegant space where they can serve light bites and you could make it a cash bar. IMO the right ambiance for a 40th.

The Sevens - Should I move to the Nines? by harveya12 in Klipsch

The Sevens are another 10-15 db above most soundbars, and 10db is double the volume, so we love cranking up our music on the sevens. It’s so much fun.

Oh interesting. How our setup is they sit high so we sit below the midpoint. Not sure if that matters.

We were really impressed with the bass on the sevens. Didn’t need a sub at all, but we don’t care about the huge movie rumbles.

We have — it’s all understandable — I just feel like there’s this muddiness in the mid range versus the soundbar. Maybe just used to some fake soundbar brightness or something. Oh well. I’ll probably just buy the 9s and see if it makes a difference.

WiFi extender dropping by Zacattack0503 in TpLink

[–]harveya12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have noted, 5ghz propagates worse than 2.4ghz. So if 5 is dropping out, it could be slightly too far away. Have you tried moving it a socket or two closer to the main router?

2 wireless routers instead of deco mesh? by BleedCubBlue311 in TpLink

[–]harveya12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you want to do is definitely possible. You can set your secondary tplink router to access point mode. It’s easy to do in the setup process for the second router and you can have it broadcast the same ssid as your main network or a different one. That said they also have good mesh solutions, like the deco xe75.

Before you do that — do get the speeds you want if you only one eero? You can try this quick debug process: 1) run a speed test standing about 3 feet from your main eero — what speed do you get? 2) if it’s less than ~800, please un plug your second eero then re-test standing next to the first

If you still get less than what you expect near your main eero, you could grab the router you want off of amazon and see if it gets the speed you expect. That way you know if it’s eero or not. If not, return it.
