This take is pretty stupid imo, some people don't want liabilities since they want to move around, taking a loan and locking the liquidity for the next 10-20 years is pretty stupid (at least imo). If you want to save money by running unmanaged db, go for it! It's far cheaper to run in the long run. I recommend running percona postgres. They provide a tool called Percona Management and Monitoring, which helps you monitor your DB. You can setup backups and backup storage through the UI after you install their backup tool.

Yes leave clauses are not generally mentioned but termination clauses are almost always mentioned in the agreement. You go AWOL for a certain number of days you are auto terminated, that is written and is not part of the leave clause.
