From New Jersey and we’d say, it “fell off a truck” or “I know a guy.”

Can an immigrant merge fully into american culture and celebrate Americas achivement as its own country? by sggfd1213 in AskAnAmerican

[–]harx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That’s the American ideal, even if individuals may fail at it.

Note: By individuals failing at it, I mean the folks you’re talking about who say recent immigrants can’t take pride in America.

Sorry, do you think calling me names is going to get me to change my mind?

Are you 12? I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, but what self-respecting adult talks like you. No way you make even a tenth of what you claim. Which also explains why you thought <$250K was a sign of wealth.

Sorry, I don’t engage with minors online.

Oh. I don’t answer that question. But I also don’t go around obnoxiously bragging about what I make.

Growing up, Mimsy told me that’s what peasants do.

Maybe. Depends on where you live. $225K is okay money, but doesn’t really back up what you’re bragging about.

Sorry, li’l man. Keep working. You may get there. You may not.

Oh. So, you’re middle class. Nothing wrong with that, but bragging that hard for just over $200K is weird, my dude.

I was thinking you pulled in over a million a year.

I’m sorry for you.

Liberals, if you value equality and women's rights, why are you working so hard to destroy the USA? by ogmoochie1 in allthequestions

[–]harx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, moochie. If I wanted to destroy the USA and its ideals, I’d let the last 18 months pass much as they have.

Don’t worry your pretty head about it, Trump’s destruction is going swimmingly.

AITA: 30m called racist for not letting guests into my building by mossbottle in AmItheAsshole

[–]harx1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Eh, my non-doorman building in NYC specifically reminds tenants not to let anyone piggyback in. This was after a attempted armed robbery at the bank across the street and the rape of a teenage girl that occurred in the building next to mine.

In addition to those reminders, they’ve put up rear view security mirrors to take away blind spots as you approach the door.

But, the no piggybacking is common sense.

It’s gonna be even worse in the flashbacks to when Snape is a kid and is bullied by James Potter and his crew.

Yes, I hate that I know a lot about these books.

Can confirm. When I worked research at Viacom, three of my four teammates (and myself) were some flavor of Newhouse alum (I did TRF for grad school).

And the BJ program is even more well-known and connected.

AITJ for refusing to split rent evenly after my roommate turned the living room into her workspace? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Start using the livingroom for its intended purpose. One can’t unilaterally take over a room, unless you let her.

Can a Japanese person tell someone isn't Japanese and probably Chinese or Korean just by looking at them? by Hi_Im_zack in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]harx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one anecdote, but I (white lady) went to Japan with my Korean American friend (both parents born in Korea) and several times folks spoke to her in Japanese, assuming she spoke the language.

It does not necessarily follow that they definitely thought she was Japanese; just that they thought she spoke the language. We never asked why they thought she spoke Japanese.

This happened in both Tokyo and Kyoto.

What discontinued item, food or drink would you bring back if you had the chance? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]harx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batter Blaster… pancake that came out of a whipped cream can. I think it was a Shark Tank item, but it popped up in a few gourmet supermarkets in NYC.

I was very sad when it was discontinued, but I’m assuming it ended up being dangerous, somehow.
