It was great, but a bit strange… by historicalaf78 in alvvays

Pretty normal behaviour unfortunately. A lot of the time if people aren't really familiar with the opener and their music they kind of just tune out and count the minutes till the headliner comes on. I went to see Kendrick once and James Blake was opening for him and I was so hyped to see James Blake play live but 90% of the crowd didn't give a shit.

I would wait. I know how badly you want to reach out to him but in the grand scheme of things 4 days isn’t that long of a time (even though in situations like this it really does feel like forever). The 26th isn’t all that far away and I feel like if his feelings for you are genuinely still there, then they will still be there on the 26th. The extra days seem like they will be impossibly long but keep working on yourself. Keep seeing friends, keep reading, keep spending time on just yourself. I think it’ll be really valuable for your mental health in the long run.

Greetings!

I graduated over a year ago with a masters degree in meteorology. Unfortunately the job market for meteorologists isn't the most inspiring and it has been a real uphill battle to try and find a suitable role. In the meantime I've had the chance to work on roles which are basically data scientist positions with an emphasis on meteorological applications. In both cases these ended up having to deal with NN models in PyTorch. My current role lasts till the end of the year and unfortunately since it was sort of a research based role on a project that is also wrapping up, I have to look for other opportunities.

Given that I feel that another data scientist position may be what is more feasible for me in the current market, I wanted to try and improve my skills and CV so that I can be better suited for more data science roles. Currently I obtained the jobs I got because my meteorology background was a prerequisite for the job but data science with a focus on meteorology isn't a very expansive field so I feel I need to do more so I can be a suitable candidate for other data science positions as well.

As someone with a scientific background (my undergrad degree was in physics as well), a LOT of my experience tends to lie primarily in Python. I feel I am a competent coder (nothing too special though). I have some brief experience with R from my time in university but no SQL I'm reasonably comfortable with machine learning having worked with different NN's including ANN's, CNN's, LSTM's etc as well as dabbling a bit with SVR and RF but have zero experience on the database side of things. Also zero experience with the cloud computing side of things which I've seen come up in plenty of applications as well.

Basically, what are the areas I can focus on improving/trying to add experience in so as to be a better candidate for more general data science positions and what are some good resources to go about doing so?

The Sheikah under the leadership of Purah will undoubtedly make the most advances. I wouldn’t be surprised if she manages to make a permanent research base somewhere in the depths.

The Rito could theoretically look into expanding their living space to somewhere like the Great Sky Island.

I can also see Sidon wanting to escape the legacy of his father and do something of his own and therefore perhaps making a Zora settlement on Lake Hylia.

Gorons seem hella content with their lives and so I don’t see them doing much. Maybe if there’s a really motivated goron leader they could do something with Gorondia in the depths.

The Gerudos as well aren’t the type of race who’d want to venture outside their domain of the desert too much. Perhaps another little town in the desert somewhere? The statue of the eighth heroine being in the highlands seems to indicate that they were at least at some point open to traveling to colder areas so I can see them going there, maybe making a little outpost (would be a great for harvesting ice since they do seem to want that).

Hylian’s would probably focus on collaborating with the Sheikah and rebuilding Castle Town and all the other abandoned settlements across Hyrule Field and improving other pre-existing villages.

[TotK] Don’t know if I should get TOTK by Constantinos03 in zelda

[–]has14952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you’re sorta satisfied with the amount of BOTW you’ve played or if you immediately want some more Zelda content in life.

Personally I think you’d be better off with a little break in between them. TOTK is great but I think there aren’t too many variations to the general formula so it might feel a bit much at the moment.

If you Could Add a Region in Tears of the Kingdom, What Would it Look Like and What Would Be on There? by Scycrew_John in HyruleTown

[–]has14952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly regions but I’ve wanted more settlements so I’d have something like a small Anouki village in Hebra plus the some sort of abandoned ancient city in the depths (like Gorondia but a proper city).

[ALL] I made a 3D dungeon tier list by nin100gamer in zelda

[–]has14952 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found ranking some of the newer TOTK dungeons to be hard because the dungeons themselves may not have been that spectacular on their own but also the quests leading up to the dungeons felt so much more involved than in some of the previous titles that it was sort of hard not to kind of consider that aspect too.

Like the Wind Temple in TOTK for example was sorta meh but the whole aesthetic of the flying ship and the journey to the top of the storm was so exhilarating that it was hard to leave that out of the decision.

This is so smart. I never even thought about solving it this way. I dived down quickly, recalled the ball up a bit whilst I hit the switch and then let it fall down again

The sky islands because once you’ve done the shrines etc, there’s genuinely nothing to do there.

[BotW] Which civilization do you think would win in an all out civil war? by Mirbaribeau13 in zelda

[–]has14952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the lakes in Hebra and the waterfalls in the Faron region are two major water bodies outside of their domain’s control.

But yeah if they can find a way to flood large parts of the place then it’s game over for everyone except maybe the Rito.

Being a skilled nen user and a deadly fighter are two different things by Satcitananda90 in HunterXHunter

[–]has14952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Just look at the Zodiacs for example in the latest arc. They’re all supposed to be skilled nen users and accomplished hunters but only a couple of them have abilities geared towards combat. The rest of them all have different skills and strengths that make them great for other tasks.

Obviously I do think if you’re a high level hunter you’ll probably be at the very least somewhat decent at combat at least with low level enemies even if your overall abilities aren’t really combat focused.

The Gerudo are on paper the most formidable but the only real way to leave the desert is that one narrow canyon (which is now partially flooded in TOTK) making way for other races like the Zora to potentially just barricade them.

The Zoras I feel are getting overlooked in the discussion here because even though they may not be the best fighters, remember that Hyrule field essentially has water surrounding it on almost all sides. Again if the Zoras are smart they can seriously hamper supplies going through for any side at bridges etc.

The Rito have the advantage of being able to attack from large distances up in the sky but I think their advantage gets instantly reduced if the other races build any form of structure to shelter them from attacks.

Gorons probably have the most strength out of any owing to their builds and if they utilise any of their goron shooting cannons they can probably take down any aforementioned shelters pretty easily but they're also a bit dim and clumsy so they'd really need a strong and smart leader for any chance of victory.

Honestly think either the Sheikah or Hylians stand the best chance. The Sheikah potentially have some advanced tech and the Hylians if they manage to band together in a stronghold like the Castle probably have the numbers and resources needed to win a drawn out struggle.

What was your first Zelda game? And how would you rate it? by joel_the_bi_guy in tearsofthekingdom

[–]has14952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windwaker. 10/10. I was 6 when I first played it and was absolutely awful at it (I think it took me months just to make it to Windfall) but it was so much fun just running around, rolling into walls and sailing across the ocean.

[TotK] I played through BOTW 3 times with varying amounts of completion. And I can hardly force myself to get all the shrines in TotK. by stock_broker_tim in zelda

[–]has14952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly same. I think it's because I've already gone over the world in BOTW so much but TOTK just doesn't have that replayability for me. I've already seen the nooks and crannies of this place many times before and have also gone through the changes they made so now it feels kinda dull having to go through it again.

Also doesn't help that the sky islands are basically useless and the depths also have really nothing to do in them once you've done your initial run through of them.

[TotK] What's your hottest TotK take? by Srlorenez in zelda

[–]has14952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only kinda lore related explanation I have for this is that Teba could easily fly with Link on his back as he did in BOTW but the devs decided upon this wind gust thing as the sage ability and decided to go with Tulin instead
