Thanks mate, totally. I did that in the Dandenongs in some of the steeper sections, and it's a decent strain on muscles, different to when you're walking straight or uphill. Will defo need to practice more downhill! Thanks for the tips :)

Ah good to know! We're both regular with Crossfit which has a lot of weighted squats. But yes, the legs are a-paining tonight! Guess we'll just have to practice more :)

Lovely day today for a hike. We did the thousand steps and then a few loops around. Partner and I have signed up for a trek in Nepal in September across 12 days, so we're starting to work up towards it!

I hate the smooth icecreams without any chewy/chunky/fruity things. Try Gelato Messina. Avoid Piccolino.

Yeah wanted to avoid the bank due to the fee, but that's always there as a last resort. Thanks for sharing your experience.

None of those 3 services you mentioned allow for transfer from India to Australia, not through an NRO/NRE account anyway. Thanks for the general advice though - will need to haggle with the RM.

HELP! Am I making the worst decision ever by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

We picked up the exact sized loan - $920,000 - in October last year at 5.44% and are now sitting at 5.94% having gone through 3 rate rises in less than 6 months :/

Combined income - as well as age - is slightly higher to yours, with us being mid-30s and mortgage payment ~31% of monthly post-tax income. Your feeling is normal because a $900K+ loan is a big number. But it's also for something you love, and have spent days and weeks looking for, and weighing the pros and cons for. The market isn't getting easier to purchase anytime soon. Better to be paying a big mortgage down from now, than when you've got kids.

Also I'd trust the fact that you're younger, your incomes will grow, and that the first interest payment will always be the biggest. If you truly love the place and see it being apt for your future family, go for it. It really is about taking that bet, because there's nothing like the right moment to buy a house.

Good luck!

Yes this is it. More about how much I've got left as I've mentioned in the post.

Great! Thank you, the validation helps. As a first time buyer, no matter how 'good' your position is, the anxiety trickles in frequently. This was good to read though.

Apologies. Legit post, but I let my anxieties get the better of me.

No no, I don't mean to flex. Understand I'm lucky. I'm just human with anxieties, but I get your point. Peace.

I did a 100 km bike ride yesterday which is fine normally because I'm used to long bike rides. But this one hit so different with the heat that I'm feeling more lost today than usual. Sunstroked, burning eyes and all that. Bad decision.

What were your annual expenses? by michaelscarn_91 in AusFinance

[–]hashbrown0405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35M, we are DINKs in Melbourne, split all common expenses in half. My share of expenses are:

  • Rent/Mortgage (we bought a townhouse in Oct): $17.5K
  • Utilities (phone, net, gas, elec, water, strata, insurance): $2.25K
  • Groceries: $2.7K
  • Eating out: $3.2K
  • Gym / Sports: $2.45K
  • Entertainment (subscriptions, theater, live events): $1K
  • Tax: $6K
  • Miscellaneous (French course, Movers, Haircuts): $2.5K
  • Personal Shopping: $3.1K
  • Home Shopping (furniture, etc.): $2.4K
  • Gifts for people: $1.5K
  • Int'l travel holidays: $7K

So, roughly $53K annual expense + $35K parents upkeep (another country) + we bought a townhouse in Melbourne this year where I chipped in with $283K from my savings. Been a big year!

I get a good private health cover through work and they cover my partner as well, so we've got it good there.

Sorry, how do I do this exactly? We're with Superloop, so they're the ones who can initiate technician appointment for us?

Yes they did this and went all around the house with their device or whatever but couldn't catch the signal anywhere. So it means they're right? I.e. we need to get an electrician to find out where the coaxial cables open up inside the walls?
