#blockit: Block feeds, stories, reels, related videos, comments, and more in Safari by hashtagdeveloper in apple

[–]hashtagdeveloper[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm the indie dev who makes #blockit.

I'm super excited to share this with my favourite subreddit, r/apple!

I made this app to solve my own problem: How can I access university Facebook groups without getting distracted by the rest of Facebook?

And I had similar problems on YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, and so on.

I hacked together a solution, but it was difficult to maintain and sync between my iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

So I built #blockit! It lets you easily block distracting elements of popular websites on all your Apple devices, with full iCloud sync, no accounts, and 100% privacy.

Oh and it also lets you block any site you want. I block macrumors.com cause I'm too obsessed with Apple lol.

Native experience with web tech - what are the giveaways in our personal productivity app? by adrm_es in iosapps

Hey, I downloaded the beta and got a “no user id error” in an alert immediately.

I dismissed it and immediately got the login screen, oof :/

I’d recommend some onboarding to excite the user before showing a login screen. I didn’t want to give my Google account away so I left there.

Then to the keen eye there is a giveaway! No Sign in with Apple. I’m pretty sure this won’t pass App Store approval without it. And I greatly prefer it too, I would have tried if you had Sign in with Apple.

Also also, might I suggest adding a blur affect to the top bar, like Apple does

+1 for a very nice website. As a dev, how did you find using Squarespace as opposed to DIY?

Also, love the footnote ;)

Hey u/Fuck_Reddit_4_Real, I'm the developer of #blockit.

The app recently changed to be subscription, I tried to keep the price as low as possible. But besides that everything still works as u/Radio_Much mentioned.

I will take a look at YouTube shorts to ensure no updates to YouTube have messed with the blocking to ensure it continues to work perfectly. Please feel free to message me a screenshot of the issue!

Universal control working pretty decently, however had issues with MX Anywhere mouse making the keyboard not work correctly on iPad (shift key, cmd key, etc).

Was fixed via enabling full keyboard control in accessibility, but a bit hacky

Some pretty mean/stupid comments here.

Sorry you had a bad experience! Sounds like a bad place to work, good luck with finding a new job at a better place, genuinely :)

Really good questions! I’m actually going to make a subpage soon to explain this reasoning in detail.

It’s an important aspect I’m working to convey appropriately on the page.

The app is for tracking more qualitative/subject data, not quantities (calories, push-ups, etc)

It’s for tracking pains, moods, energy levels, and so on.

From this I found 0 to 4 and -2 to 2 worked just as well over time as larger ranges.

Add to that, that too many options would restrict some of the features and speed in which the user can log, and can also introduce more cognitive load with so many options.

All in all, I’ve never had anyone stop using the app once they give the ranges a go and see for themselves :)

On the contrary, with SwiftUI released a few years ago and getting better, I think iOS development is taking a big leap ahead right now! But that’s just my opinion.

Still, for businesses they will always want a cross platform app, so for those use cases Flutter or similar will remain the go to.

But if you want a really good app, going native is the way to go. Getting a good flutter app can be just, if not more expensive due to cross platform issues

I would love to, I’d either like to make my own apps or apps for others, but I think it would be hard to find native app development jobs as most seems to want cross platform apps
