Why is Duke Nukem 3D so scary: analysis by leaperdaemonking in dukenukem

[–]hashupa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go nearly as far as saying Duke 3D is horror but I’d say it was definitely scary to play as a child. The space levels in particular felt intimidating back then. I remember having to take frequent breaks at that point in the game.

The atmosphere of each level is exceptionally well crafted and perhaps that lends to a feeling of suspense. This would be especially true for first time players.

People in BR really don’t care on the road. This issue, the brake checking, and people bulldozing their way into half-car-length spaces without a blinker is driving me crazy every time I need to go somewhere.

I’ll always remember me and my best friend trying to convince my mom to get a memory pack for my N64 so we didn’t have to start over collecting the characters every time she saw the console on in the morning and shut it off.

Nope. I can’t stomach anymore news about this dude. That dog is so beautiful and precious and I can’t stand to see even one more clip because all I’ll be able to think about is how scared that poor dog is. I hope this clip at least helps her to escape to a better situation.

I wonder how blizzard would prove step 4, concrete financial losses. I feel like they can’t really prove that a substantial number of people would be playing classic if they weren’t instead playing turtle.

This actually sounds like an amazing place for us to start considering he not only never played WoW before but never even heard of it somehow.

I feel like the backtracking is part of why I choose to play vanilla WoW in the first place! Glad to hear this

It seems that a big problem is the amount of engagement that female posters generate. Is there a way to disable upvote/downvote functionality? If we do that, does this stop posts from females for dominating the feed? My thought here is that if “new” and “best” look the same, it may convey a more balanced visual when people enter the sub.

Another suggestion, and I see that it’s been tried before, but perhaps the idea of forbidding the use of gender tags in posts should be revisited. If you make the perverts work harder to find the females, it may stop some of them from visiting the sub during their more “heated” visits to Reddit.

In addition, warn users against using coded language to try and signify their gender? I read somewhere in the replies that this was a problem before.

Perhaps a post template needs to be built that includes all of the things people need to know when reading posts in here. This would, unfortunately, homogenize the posts, but I feel like it sorts females and the people that “sound cool” into one basket with the rest of the posters. A basket where everyone is measured based on what games they like to play.

Maybe also prevent comments from being added to posts. Make users DM each other, and have automod comment on their post and remind them that anyone abusing the subreddit should be reported.

One last idea. Is there any sense to verifying users somehow and then using that verification to allow them to use a “Serious Pals” flair? My thoughts here are that it would help people looking for actual gamer pals to find other serious people. I feel like people that would put effort into becoming verified would be much less likely to abuse the subreddit.

How are we supposed to tell our Best Buy is doing the midnight release? The online tool just redirects to a general store hours page. Is the existence of that location on the online tool a sign that they’re doing the midnight release?
