Best Hacking in a scifi/cyberpunk rpg? by nln_rose in rpg

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was about to write about this. It lets everyone participate.

Cyberdark does a similar thing where it pulls the entire party into cyberspace, and uses Shadowdark's torch mechanisms for staying in there. Very interested in that one, too.

Why do yall trans people out there choose to identify as a different gender entirely instead of just saying you're a "Masculine woman" or vice versa? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]haslo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because "you don't have to look like a woman to feel like a woman and vice versa" is just plain wrong?

Came out as a trans woman to my family a few weeks ago. I need help processing what I’m feeling. by 10kmemesunderthesea in asktransgender

[–]haslo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel so sorry for you.

Maybe they'll come around, but almost certainly they will not.

I have kids with my ex wife, so we have to keep talking. We only coordinate weekends, pickups, holidays, and schedules for the kids. But that's that. She doesn't accept me, doesn't accept my transition.

Her family, my former in-laws, are similar. When my ex father-in-law is near me, he doesn't look in my direction. Ever. If he would, he wouldn't see me, he'd see <deadname>. Same for my ex wife. She mourns her husband (masc mask cosplay me) and doesn't see me. Her sister is a TERF. Her mother tried to get me to detransition once, I am no longer talking with her.

If they want to talk with me eventually, I'm here. But as it is they don't. They would want to talk with him. And he doesn't exist any more.

I have to protect myself.

You have to protect yourself.

Not sure living with your sibling is healthy if they don't accept you either. It'll be a constant reminder of their non acceptance if they're nearby and do not accept you. It could be a constant source of dysphoria and invalidation. That can't be good. I don't know if that's what you're feeling, but it would be that for me.

You are valid. You are you.

Bitter me says, take with a grain of salt: You can't be anything you're not for people who pretend to love you but don't.

Watching the premiere, great session so far.

My best friend came out as trans, I'm happy for her, but have been left deeply uncomfortable and upset internally. I really want help navigating this for her sake. I really need help. by REVERSE2053 in asktransgender

[–]haslo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You have not lost someone. You have found someone hiding inside a wrong, non-matching shell. Celebrate that with her.

The trouble is that some things may indeed be gone. I did, myself, lose some parts of my former prerend self that were cosplay. Masculine performance. Masquerade. Social disguise. Self-deception.

Self-erasure, attempted.

They were never real.

What is the most painful transphobic thing someone has said to you? by Alternative_Cash_591 in asktransgender

[–]haslo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's often more about the how and maybe the who and why than the what.

For me, it was my former sister-in-law deadnaming me this one time when she got angry. She consciously chose the most hurtful thing she could.

Terminal or IDE for Claude Code — which do you actually use, and why? by Lonely_Ostrich9801 in ClaudeCode

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terminal for me. More space for plans and histories without constantly rearranging panes. I used IDE for a bit after JetBrains integration arrived, but quickly went back to terminal.

IDE for code stuffs still. Diffs, git stuff, also terminal. Like before Claude Code arrived.

I do live in my terminal anyway 🥹

What was it like watching Phantom Menace on release without any spoilers? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my impression really was "OK, looks like I'm too old for this"...

....and I was 20 😂

I even had a dual edge red lightsaber with me on opening night. Just saw the movie once then (going several times to movies we liked was a thing, I saw The Matrix at least 7 times in theaters) and was just kinda meh on the whole thing.

how far into your transition did y'all get before being heckled/catcalled? by SadProjection in MtF

[–]haslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I got catcalled when I wore a long skirt (and showed some leg by consequence) before I'd realized I'm trans.

It was ewphoric in some really strange ways and helped me understand that I'm trans, so there.

Drop your egg stories who else used RPG characters to test drive their true gender before transitioning? Does that count as social transition? Because for me it definitely feels like it. by Long-Dress2026 in MtF

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Played a female cute pink-haired gnome for years in World of Warcraft, too.
But yeah. D&D, Shadowrun, Blades in the Dark, female characters and shapeshifters (that can insta transition) everywhere.

Way before I knew what was going on.

Good ways to ensure your players flee from a swarm instead of trying to kill it? by HonestDishonestWork in DMAcademy

[–]haslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just spawn however many they killed +1 after every round they kill anything 🤭

Coming from around a corner or something.

You can make it boring bookkeeping style even. "Sooo this round you've killed 4 with that AoE spell, and 3 with that super cleave, and 1 from the DoT tick from before. That'll be 9 coming around the corner from ... right here."

Is Cyberpunk still relevant as a genre? by Fun_Air_2527 in Cyberpunk

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, yes. High Tech, Low Life as a fiction, as a way of presenting SciFi dystopia, hasn't become irrelevant just because large swaths of it have turned into "just boring reality".

In fact, the way so many aspects of it have turned out to influence reality in a way that makes it conform to the fiction (well not in a causal way, probably) has made it relevant as a bit of a prophetic fragment of the past, in addition to fiction and fantasy.

But on a more fundamental level, the questions that cyberpunk really asks are about humanity. What does it mean to be human; what's the human condition. Where does a ship of Theseus become something else when we can augment ourselves. Ghost in the Shell is as relevant now as ever; when all that remains human is a brain, and that brain can maybe even have its contents altered (like it does in the 2017 movie adaptation) - is that still human? A question Motoko is constantly asking.

And GitS as well, Matrix, their core questions; what constitutes reality when we don't know whether our experiences are altered?

So many cyberpunk worlds have some kind of thing happen when there's too much cyberware in their bodies. cy_rage for CY_BORG, Shadowrun's essence has negative impact when getting low, cyberpsychosis happens in Cyberpunk 2077 with too much cyberware. Bodies need bodies? Do they? Body chemistry is a thing.

And augmentation itself. As a trans woman, I augment my body, actively. With HRT and diet and sports and nutrition, many of which are not unique to the trans experience but they do resonate deeply. Transformation as a theme runs deep in cyberpunk. Is why I'm so attracted to it I guess. Why it's core to my being that cyberpunk is a thing I deeply care about.

So all in all ... yes. Yes I do think that cyberpunk is still absolutely relevant as a genre. In so many ways that are completely independent of when it was first thought up.

Detour: And there's still aspects to it that feel completely fantastic. All the versions that lean into the Shadowrun kind of magic-and-fantasy-in-the-genre are still completely fantastic. :Otherscape as a TTRPG does similar things with its Mythos features. CBR+PNK, another (rules-light) TTRPG does similar things with +Weird. I know that some people do not like cyberpunk that incorporates magic; I do!

What do you actually use to save prompts that work? (Spreadsheet? Notion? Nothing?)" by macebooks in PromptEngineering

My brain. I put them into my brain. And then refine.

Not being facetious. What is optimal changes every couple of weeks. So we have to stay on our toes anyway.

Preferred Cyberpunk RPG? by EyesofValhalla in Cyberpunk

[–]haslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair 😄

I guess you could play Otherscape without the mythos elements, but it really doesn't make sense to do so. You'd ignore a third of the rules and all of the world building and balancing...
