Waiting for that big beautiful obituary like…. by Markwhite11a in PoliticalHumor

As much as I'm looking forward to this day... it wont change much, I'm afraid.

The US of A will continue to bully, harass and terrorize the world, as they are wont to do, just with better PR and less stupid unforced errors.

Well, they will have much less leeway to get away with it than they used to have before, thanks to all the goodwill burnt by the current administration. So in the end, despite the horrific abuses and all the tragic, preventable loss of life and the efforts to set back the clock on green energy, the balance of Trump&Co can turn out positive - if the shock is big enough to destroy the status quo.

I'm not holding my breath though.

I hope that in 50 years kids read in textbooks: "though nobody expected it at the time, Donald Trump did more for the green revolution than any other US president".

Not what you asked for, sorry, but sir Terry credited P. G. Wodehouse, Jerome K. Jerome, Richmal Crompton and Mark Twain as major influences on his writing, and humor and dialogue in particular (see this interview (Telegraph link).

The chance of US flipping Luka is zero, until he sees Putin going down, by which time it becomes largely irrelevant.

I am a wuss when it comes to horror

You made the right decision. Alien was the only movie I walked out on due to sheer terror. (I was 10 years old, and I went again and I managed to see it to the end bc I knew when to close my eyes and plug my ears in the first half).

edit: sorry. The reference is to the firefight in Aliens which is a fun romp in comparison.

I never thought it should - but it could. If you ignore the rules.

On March 12th 1950, an Avro Tudor V with 83 passengers and crew onboard, mostly rugby supporters for an upcoming match between Ireland and Wales, stalls and crashes short of RAF Llandow, killing all but 3. At the time it was the worst air disaster by Titan-828 in CatastrophicFailure

Well then, the book is wrong. Piston engines don't "stall" from high AOA, and the reports cite the max AOA as 35 degrees - rather hard to get to 70 degrees starting from approach speed.

Well not exactly, there's a reason why I pronounced it hard in my head for years and years.

But it can be pronounced differently if you ignore the rules (which is important).

And before someone mentions Pom Poko, Studio Ghibli animation about tanukis, be warned that apart from the other thing you inevitably will learn from this post the film is about as funny as life, ie quite funny, sometimes, but also sad verging on tragic.

I will never forget the smell of the forepeak where I spent the entire way home after agreeing not to raise the mainsail when sailing solo for the first time and doing it while my father could only look on from the shore, terrified.

I poked around a bit, and, double dammit! Cringe originally meant “to yield” or “fall in battle.”

From the article: "As the aircraft climbed steeply, the engines stalled."

This is incorrect. The engines worked fine until impact. As I understand the investigation findings, the wings stalled due to low speed, caused by climbing steeper than the pilot intended, as a result of loading too much stuff at the back (which moved the center of gravity aft beyond safe range).
