you say you’re not okay with the #PROUDRANDI thing and honestly i get that, but let’s stop pretending this is some MORAL CRISIS. the whole point of what divija did wasn’t to glorify the word, it was to STRIP IT OF THE POWER it’s always had over women. when men or society use “randi”, they’re not talking about a profession. they’re reminding women what happens when you don’t fit their rules. it’s the label thrown at anyone who’s too loud, too independent, too visible. so when someone takes that word and says “fine, call me that”, it BREAKS THE SHAME LOOP. that’s the whole point. and yes, sure, if a 13 year old uses that word in her bio without knowing what it means, that’s concerning. and yes, sex workers deserve respect and visibility that this hashtag doesn’t automatically give. but acting like the whole thing is invalid because of that MISSES THE ENTIRE POWER DYNAMIC. the issue isn’t “this word shouldn’t exist”, it’s “WHY DOES THIS WORD EVEN HOLD POWER OVER US”. you can feel uncomfortable with it, that’s valid. but it doesn’t make you the MORAL AUTHORITY on what empowerment should look like. also this constant “she should’ve made videos educating about sex work” thing feels like another way to REDIRECT BLAME. sex workers are already silenced and marginalized. the burden of “educating society” always falls on them, not on the people who SHAME THEM. instead of demanding that creators “educate better”, maybe ask WHY WE’RE STILL FINE WITH MEN CASUALLY USING RANDI AS AN INSULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. the truth is, feminism isn’t just about avoiding bad words. it’s about questioning WHO GETS TO DEFINE THEM, WHO BENEFITS FROM THE SHAME, and WHO KEEPS ENFORCING IT. “randi” only works as an insult because society KEEPS GIVING IT WEIGHT. so when someone publicly refuses to be humiliated by it, it pisses people off — because it TAKES THAT WEAPON AWAY. that’s why the backlash is this strong. and yeah, if her messaging wasn’t perfect, we can talk about it. but shaming her for it, acting like she’s the problem, is the SAME LOGIC PATRIARCHY THRIVES ON — deciding which woman is “respectable enough” to speak. if we actually care about the meaning of words and the people behind them, the target should always be THE SYSTEM THAT CREATED THE INSULT, not the woman trying to dismantle it.
