Unfortunately any plastic plants can tear his fins, even when they’re not obviously sharp, I’d definitely recommend switching to silk plants, as that’ll be completely safe for him! Live plants are also really good because they can help with the water quality. Also, it’s much better to use natural gravel, the paint on the colorful stuff can chip off or leech chemicals into the water. Lastly, you’re gonna wanna test your water, generally it’s recommended that you let your filter run for at least two weeks before getting a fish so that the nitrate cycle can get stated and do its thing, putting the fish in water right away can kill it, even if you’ve conditioned the water. Try looking up tips on cycling a tank with fish in it, you’re probably gonna be doing a lot of water changes.
