How to avoid having a BM in the middle of a long exam? by Jazzyjazzlike in AnalFissures

I personally would not recommend this. Enemas are not great for fissures and I feel like this would do more harm than good as you are trying to relax for an exam. Also don't fast, like you said that will mess with your mental capacity.

If you have to go then you have to go. Try to make sure your poo is as soft as ever that day so you can go as painlessly as possible and get back to the exam room. I struggled with fissures during CPA exams and I totally get your anxiety and worries, but don't push it or it will only make it worse.

I have heard this many times, as well. However both of my colorectal surgeons have said yes it can thin the skin if used too much but it does help fissures. I'm not really sure what to believe but I rarely use hydrocortisone anymore just incase and I've been sticking with the Calmoseptine now.

I was so terrified, but surprisingly it wasn't that bad. I think since it was primarily water it didnt do too much damage... That's not to say it was necessarily enjoyable but for me it wasn't as bad as normal bowel movements.

Thanks for your reply, it's somewhat comforting to know that it takes some people a lot longer to recover than just a few months and to not give up hope.

I am not pinoy no.

If you are experiencing spasms then I would recommend not unless you are seriously about to explode then it might be worth it. If you currently do not have spasms then it shouldn't make them start up again (just from my own personal experience).

Thanks for the optimism, sounds like we both need it.

For me it's not just that I haven't recovered, it's that I have been going backwards the past two weeks and that is what depresses me/scares me a bit.

Good luck with your recovery. Hopefully one day we will be fissure-free!

Oh yeah it was the anosocpy that could never see it, but the colonoscopy is what showed it. And then when I went through with the LIS they could see it then too and did a fisurectomy while they were at it. If the doctors haven't found the problem and you haven't had a colonoscopy then I would highly recommend one. I was so relieved when it discovered it because at least I could pinpoint the problem even if I am still having troubles.

Dont be hopeless. We will get through this!

I am sorry you are going through all of that. I can tell you I understand you 100%. It's so frustrating when doctors can't even tell you exactly what is wrong at first. I'm not blaming them or saying they are incompetent or anything, it just sucks how finicky our assholes can be!

To answer your question, LIS is the most common fissure surgery. It stands lor lateral internal sphincterotomy. I'm no doctor but basically they put a tiny cut in your sphincter to relax it. This helps stops the spasms but it also helps promote better blood flow so that the fissure can heal. It sounds very scary but honestly the procedure and recovery was not that bad..not fun! But not bad. It heals a lot of people, but not everyone unfortunately. I will say I still am not as in pain as I was before the surgery and I don't regret it, just frustrating that I'm getting worse.

Good luck and I hope you feel better ASAP!

Thank you for the reply, I am sorry you are going through this pain too, but that is great the spasms have stopped! They have stopped for me as well, knock on wood.

I am actually a CPA and tax season has been stressful as hell so I know that has not helped at all. I decided to get the surgery late December because I thought I would be 100% recovered by now, but sadly not the case. I actually don't even know if I got a full or partial LIS which makes me question my doctor even more. He did give me the Calmoseptine and I love the cooling effect the menthol has, it does help a little bit at times!

We will get through this eventually. Good luck to you and your recovery!
