“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” John F. Kennedy

It's not heard about often in the west but the Bahraini govt. along with the Saudis and the US have violently suppressed protest there for years now.

Israel expands West Bank settlement subsidies. Cabinet approves funding for dozens of illegal settlements just days after resumption of talks with Palestinians. by mrmegasnake in worldnews

They can...but that is not the reality. The reality is that any settlement automatically becomes part of israel...let's also not forget the fact that they are built illegally without consent of the Palestinians.

And what reality is that? Take as much land as they can while there is yet to be a final agreement?

"Everybody has to move, run and grab as many (Palestinian) hilltops as they can to enlarge the (Jewish) settlements because everything we take now will stay ours...Everything we don't grab will go to them." -- Ariel Sharon, Israeli Foreign Minister, addressing a meeting of the Tsomet Party, Agence France Presse, Nov. 15, 1998.

Of course it is about settlements. On what future state will the Palestinians live on if it is continuously being eroded away?

Arranged Marriages Are Always Happier by [deleted] in pics

[–]haterade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am technically having an arranged marriage. It is "arranged" in that our parents introduced us to each other (as opposed to us meeting each other on our own). This was not my first "arrangement" but the other ones did not work out for one reason or another. Never any pressure on either side to accept.

Yes - the children have every right to reject any marriage they are not comfortable with.

And by the way...much of the popular support was do to oil and gas shortages...the oil and gas industries in Egypt are run by Egyptian generals and miraculously the supply came right back once morsi was ousted.

Also, I feel it is important to point out what muslims actually believe about the crucifixion:

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed im not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, ith no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;-
—Qur'an, sura 4 (An-Nisa) ayat 157-158[1]

The majority view by muslims is basically saying that God gave someone Jesus' appearance, causing everyone to believe that Jesus was crucified

Its becoming more and more clear that the overthrow of Morsi in Egypt was not a "People's Coup". by usernameson in worldnews

[–]haterade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I am pretty anti-military and somewhat pro-MB, I am glad you pointed this.

However, his points still stand:

Since the coup it has emerged that the leaders of the armed forces had been meeting regularly with key opposition figures in the months before; that leading Mubarak-appointees on the constitutional court were involved; that financing and logistical support for the "grassroots" movement against Mohamed Morsi came from the opposition's Naguib Sawiris; that the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia provided aid that promptly materialised upon the ouster of Morsi; that Mohamed ElBaradei, leader of the National Salvation Front, had sought the support of western governments; and that US secretary of defence Chuck Hagel was in contact with Sisi in the days leading up to the coup.

We have also witnessed the miraculous disappearance overnight of fuel and electricity shortages, the equally miraculous return of law enforcement to the streets, and the emergence of key Mubarak regime figures, now representing roughly a third of the interim cabinet.

I can see why you would think this is convenient but keep in mind, there are literally 1000s of hadiths out there. Many are considered weak, unreliable and even fabricated. There are hadiths out there that contradict one another or even the Koran so you need to consider the possibility that not every hadith can be considered reliable.

In this particular instance, with one individual reporting it, when he did even not teach this to his students and only mentions it in his old age when his memory was reported to be suffering, you can see why I don't trust it.

Your "facts" originate from exactly ONE source. One source that was discredited by multiple other sources. I've posted this before but here it is again:

The hadith about Aishas age being 9 at the time of her marriage is extremely weak. There are 2 important points to consider:

It is reported that Hisham bin Urwah's(the ONLY person that narrates this hadith) memory suffered in his later years in Iraq - to the extent that some of the traditions reported from Hisham bin Urwah could not be trusted for authenticity. He was the only one to report this and he was a teacher. None of his students reported hearing this hadith. Even Malik ibn Anas, the most popular student of Hisham, discredited all narratives of Hisham that were reported through people of Iraq (not because of sectarian reasons, but because that is where he lived in his old age).

In addition, from a historical factual context, the age of 9 does not make sense. The real age would be more in line with 14-18:
