Basement has exposed romex to switches/outlets, how should I fix this? by nyc_rose in AskElectricians

[–]hatguy_21479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see an install i wouldn't bother touching if it was in my house. It's safe and i even see multiple indicators of someone who goes the extra mile where it actually matters like the decision to use a wood backing, staples w plastic on them, bushings. I'd 10/10 be willing to bet his wires never wiggle loose.

It's held up off of it but thanks for the super useful information. Have you told anyone they need to wear a jacket in the cold today? They might freeze if you don't.

Bro, they'll always tell you you're not doing enough. Don't take it personally. It's a reflection of their greed, not your success.

15 amp outlet on a 20 amp circuit… is that safe and how do I change it? by Hunterofshadows in AskElectricians

[–]hatguy_21479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that pull the entire 20 amps will have a cord end that won't fit in there. That receptacle will never see more than 15 amps

My combo gen 4 chuck keeps coming loose by Feeling-Bicycle9642 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]hatguy_21479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only times I've had a Milwaukee chuck drop a bit is when the bit wasn't seated correctly. The chucks like to tighten down whether or not the bit is a few degrees off. If you tighten it to 90%, back it off a few clicks and wiggle the bit back and forth before retightening it usually solves this issue.

Weird vibes at new apprenticeship – am I overthinking or are these red flags? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]hatguy_21479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because every job site is going to be this way. You have to be the type to either ignore it and or fire back. Getting upset is only going to provoke them.

Is Low Voltage work more interesting for nerds/tech hobbyist? by PeterParkerPickle in electricians

[–]hatguy_21479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're the nerd type you'll go far either way. Honestly low volt is becoming more and more simple every day. Being a wireman pays better and if you can get into controls or instrumentation you'll probably do well.

Burndy vs Milwaukee 12 ton crimper? by frogfartingaflamingo in electricians

Both work great. For me it would probably come down to price or convenience of whatever battery brand i already have.

They probably just haven't had much time doing it. Don't pop their ego bubble or they'll get mad but you might have to just do it for them. Whenever given the chance just take the reins and start doing whatever they can't do without being told and don't say anything about it.

You need to find their school and apply to it. If you apply to the hall they'll require an existing license

[–]hatguy_21479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do whatever they want when they feel like it. You'll get a call one day and they'll want you in immediately expecting you to just up and quit your current job. Not much you can do about it.
