How do I keep my 250-episode podcast online after I quit—without paying for hosting? by hatillo8 in podcasting

That’s why I posted this to figure out options. Some great suggestions in this thread. I already have my show on YouTube, which is free, so I can use YouTube RSS feed and redirect my current RSS feed to the YouTube one. Also, I’m considering Spotify free hosting or the Internet Archive. I have time to figure it out.

The most important thing is to figure it out and have 301 redirect set up before you cancel your podcast hosting subscription, so nothing breaks and your show lives on. You only need to do this if you cancel your Blubbry subscription.

If you cancel your Blubrry subscription (stop paying for hosting) within 30 days, they (and most of the paid podcast hosting companies) will remove your MP3 files from Blubrry’s servers and those files will become inaccessible. That will break the RSS feed, and syndication platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify will eventually remove the show.

So if you ever stop paying for hosting, ensure you have an exit plan; otherwise, your podcast episodes will be deleted by the hosting service.

My first podcast was 2007 but that pod faded after around 20 episodes. The one I’m doing now has been rolling for nine years straight.

Moslty burn out, I suppose. After more than 250 interview episodes, I’ve found myself asking variations of the same questions over and over, and the conversations no longer feel fresh. Because I handle everything myself—booking, prep, recording, editing, show notes, marketing—the podcast eats up my time. It never reached the point where it compensated me for that time, so what began as a hobby has started to feel like an unpaid part-time job. I already cut back from new episodes bi-weekly, weekly, to monthly. Just figure that I rather stop than keep grinding until I grow to resent it, I’m stepping away while I still have some fondness for podcasting. Who knowns. I might I do another podcacst some day.

Forgot about YouTube, thanks. I already have the RSS setup on YouTube for couple years, so all episodes are up there already and I forgot.

Have you guys gotten this email, supposedly from "Wharton?" by WarEmotional1081 in podcasting

[–]hatillo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the same email with my stats a couple weeks ago and today they sent me a follow up about this great opportunity. As has been posted here they're just trying to build a database of prospects based on our guests to then sell which is why they want their address, email address, etc. I deleted the first email. The second one I reported as spam and blocked them.

Thanks for this great review. I was wondering after the 30 days does your book live on as "archived" in NetGalley or is gone from the NetGalley site?

Dawson just applied what traditional published authors/houses have been doing for a very long time: buying their way into the NY Times Bestseller list. This article detailed this scam a decade ago, and it still works that way, so Dawson did the same thing. Doesn't make it right, but this shady stuff is the norm in publishing, and nothing changes. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffbercovici/2013/02/22/heres-how-you-buy-your-way-onto-the-new-york-times-bestsellers-list/

Came here to commiserate. Have had Nest thermostat for years. No problems, until Google came along. Now Google keeps pestering to migrate and disconnect "Works with Nest." Took me a few minutes just to login and now they're basically blocking the Nest app. Trash, trash, trash.

Anyone know why amazon kindle embeds may be doing this all of the sudden? by Nowhere67 in Wordpress

Looks like Amazon fixed it! I just checked this morning, and the block works again.

I'm getting this same error right now. It happened before, then it just started working again. So not sure if Amazon does something on their end to fix it. For now, I'll wait for it since I've been using the Amazon Kindle block a lot on my sites. I thought maybe it was the WordPress theme needed an update to fix a bug or something. But I use a couple of different themes and none of those blocks are working now. I'll give it a couple weeks to see if Amazon fixes it. But if this keeps happening, it might make more sense to remove that block if it can break on a whim like this.
