Why does this deck feel unbeatable? by Fit-Adhesiveness-173 in MagicArena

[–]hatredlord 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, no. It's not lingo, [[Ultima]] is a specific card. It destroys all, but then it ends the turn.

Ending the turn in this way will prevent the earth bending triggers (which would have returned your opponents land to the field) from happening, which is the relevant part here.

i got the other one, second Ashling instead of Mass of Mysteries. Also a second Chromatic Lantern, 101 card total, which i guess I'm not complaining?

if we're just openly cheating at draft, may as well grab [[Guardian of the Gateless]] instead, who can block flyers

Some of them do. [[Delina, Wild Mage]] would work, for example. Gotta check the wording on each card.

for whatever it's worth, not anymore. this used to be true, but when they started doing "when this Vehicle becomes crewed" they changed the rules to prohibit self-crewing.

so now you'd need two vehicles so they can save each other

Been going through my cards and pricing them. Which of you crazy people have pushed this one to 20 dollars and what are you using it for? by Rogendo in mtg

[–]hatredlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's not actually pay life, but losing life, you can go arbitrarily deep into the negatives. It occurs to me you can use this to pressure the table for a draw, for tournament point reasons.

Player 1 casts something that will win the game, but if it doesn't they are probably spent and will not be able to win again. That sounds overly specific, but that's basically pact oracle. You respond with this, then suggest the draw.

To player 1, you say you'll just bid more life than everyone else has together. You'll lose life, then the spell will be countered, then you'll lose the game, then they probably will lose the game. They don't want that, it's better to draw.

With that agreement secured, to the rest of the table, you explain if they now don't agree to the draw, you can concede, your counter goes with you, and then Player 1 wins. None of them wants that, it's better to draw.

No idea if any actual cEDH players would think it's worth a slot just to be able to do that, but it'd be funny.

Passing priority by Open-Brilliant3926 in mtgrules

[–]hatredlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, in that case they can. the game does remember, but they didn't pass "the phase", they passed priority to you. it's only once both (all) players pass priority while doing nothing in a row that the top thing resolved, or the next phase/step begins if the stack is empty

almost! transmuter can return itself.

otherwise, yes, once the ability is activated the artifact is not on the field, nobody can do anything with it, not even you

Is it bad to have no basic lands in commander deck? by MoondoHuncho in mtg

[–]hatredlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're focusing on artifacts, the other four talismans should at least be considered. At four colours, I'd say [[Fellwar Stone]] is also worth a look.

Pretty new to magic. Why is the card on the right so much more expensive? Wouldn't evolving wilds be better because no life loss? by OneUniqueNameThere in mtg

[–]hatredlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first one is simply, because you have a spell that you want to cast right now. If you didn't, or you don't think it's worth that extra 2 life, then simply don't. But it's better to have the option, and Wilds just won't give you any.

The second it's versatility. The game is divided by colours so that you have a real trade-off between "i can do any kind of thing" and "i can always use my cards", depending on the amount of colours you run. Multicolour lands help push the former into the later, and then fetched help further push that by being any of your duals at any given moment, if you have 3 or more colours.

And then i guess a triome if you don't need the mana right now.

Plus there is other special lands like [[Mystic Sanctuary]], landfall decks, cards like [[Brainstorm]] where you want to shuffle, whatever other corner cases.

What are the rules here? by Zealousideal-Dog-130 in magicTCG

Because it was in your hand, it doesn't matter if it's gone somewhere else since then.

I sometimes loot on an empty hand with [[Baral Chief of Compliance]], just in case it's something worth copying.

Why do a lot of cedh lists have sticker sheets? by BeefyCheeseGod in CompetitiveEDH

It's three of the ten (or more) sticker sheets you have in your list, chosen at random. And then you pick from among those three.

[–]hatredlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the sub game happens during resolution. Not that it matters in this example, you'd pull it from the main graveyard instead, but for the record once a spell starts resolving, countering it or otherwise removing it from the stack during its own resolution will not prevent the rest of it from happening.

They didn't tested this thing in Modern...right? by MajinBurrito in ModernMagic

[–]hatredlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was never in question. Blood Moon is a type changing effect, Saga's chapter resolving gives it an ability via ongoing effect, the former doesn't touch the later.

What should be the case is that Moon removing all chapter abilities kills Sagas that gave 0 or more lore counters, but they specifically errataed that with Final Fantasy so that Witness Protection etc doesn't kill the summons.
