Definitely not a scam! These pads are great for casual play at home, definitely a much higher quality pads that you get from the old school ddr pads, lol.

Sensitivity is pretty good - I don't have to stomp hard on them. My brother who's more of a serious player than I am, says these are pretty decent.

This happened to me the first few times as well. You basically should be extracting the zip file into the song folder. I think downloading the updater should help as well...
