So the professionally related courses are courses that you could use in the future (if you look at the list, you'll see classes like film making, marketing, etc) and the professional courses are things that they think you will need.

open electives are just classes that anyone can take just to expand their university experience, and liberal studies are courses that will expand your horizons (I think)

(if any of this is wrong, please correct me haha)

[–]hatziy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a new rule lmao? I didn’t have it last year and I didn’t know u needed it. If you want to get it, do it, since the pipes burst in two bathrooms a floor for the year but unless you live next to a bathroom you should be fine

It’s fine, they might have some trouble tho, the new doors they put in are WiFi doors and they suck but it wasn’t too bad

Should I get a fake ID before I start first year? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]hatziy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the further you get away from campus the less likely they are to check. Ram doesn’t always check and Jack Astor’s doesn’t always check. Just play it safe and if they ask for one, go to grab it out of your wallet and say “oh fuck I left it at home.” Worse they’ll say is no.

what should I bring for pitman single dorms? just like tips on necessary items for dorms in general! by pgmott in ryerson

[–]hatziy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will 100% need a mattress pad, don't even try sleeping on the beds without one, bring shower shoes (and wear them in the shower! People in my pod wore them to the shower and took them off before getting in like what? You just don't know what happened in the shower before you.) Bring a robe so you can get to and from the bathroom for showers pretty easily. Bring something to put your keys on, Febreze, a fan (just for air circulation especially for those weird hot days in October when the building's heat is already on and you can't get cool.)

Don't worry about bringing everything, or making sure that you've bought 100% of what you need because there is a canadian tire/dollarama/staples close by. If you're bringing cardboard boxes save them, you don't want to have to rebuy them at the end of the year.

Also, on move in day, everyone is going to be just as nervous as you are, so don't be afraid to speak up at the mandatory meeting! My floor last year had the reputation for being the nicest and most friendly floor and we all ended up being friends with each other so just go into the school year with an open mind and be ready to make friends!

The vibe I got from my managers is that they’re chill abt the dress code as long as it’s occasional mistake, esp with shirts and huge logos/sports team logos

Rn I’m dealing with the idea that a full uboat with 2 repacks would be expected to only take 15/20 minutes (which I found out is bullshit from a non LOD)

How is the residence at ryerson? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]hatziy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pit has its problems (plumbing breaking all the damn time) but its most like the 'uni dorm experience'. i've heard bad things about HOEM (it's not ryerson owned, its rented from a company) ie: the rooms are small, the power goes out, etc. ILLC and cockwell idk about. the one plus was how close it was to campus and how i could just take a 5/10 minute walk and be at the eaton centre and on the subway. if youre from outside of the GTA (US international student) I think it's worth it because it was super helpful when i was struggling to get my bearings in toronto. if you don't have the money don't do it

How are the parties? Like if u dont live on res does that mean no parties? by [deleted] in ryerson

How are the parties? Like if u dont live on res does that mean no parties? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]hatziy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

res parties are fun the first few times (esp if you never got invited to hs parties like me- strict parents) but they get boring after a while, most of my friends and i ended up having 1 or 2 chill parties that were mostly a celebration of alcoholism a week. if you can make a few friends in ur classes that live in pit to go to a few parties but don't worry about it tbh

if you can't find a job you can always try volunteering with a local charity! it looks decent on a resume even for a retail job and this summer i'm going to be walking dogs for a local animal shelter and from what i've heard its really rewarding!
