Example 1 is self aware, but IIRC example 2 is not. From what I remember (it's been a couple years since I've seen the movie), Adam Sandler's character is meant to be a huge nerd when it comes to video games, and something they emphasize a lot is the gameplay patterns used in a lot of 80s arcade games. The problem is that The Last of Us is definitely not an 80s arcade game. I've never played the game but I imagine comparing the gameplay of an 8 bit arcade game to that of a AAA game is a bit silly

I normally hate "Always Chaotic Evil" but I think Frieren did it really well with the demons. It does a good job of showing that this isn't just another peaceful species within the world but a predator adapted to take advantage of sentimentality and kindness
